Title: Re: DRAGWAYS OR NOT?????? Post by: FC0058 on May 05, 2007, 06:20:52 AM Mark
I am not to sure what my preference would be. I think you need to loose the flappers and see how that looks. I think there needs to be some black between the rim and the whitewall, at the moment the flapper over powers to look of the rim. Just my thoughts. Cheers Jim Title: Re: DRAGWAYS OR NOT?????? Post by: steamman on May 05, 2007, 07:05:33 AM Yep the flappers and the dragways look cool 8)
Cheers Deano. Title: Re: DRAGWAYS OR NOT?????? Post by: trevwood on May 05, 2007, 09:56:29 AM Love the Dragways, don't mind the stockies either, that would be my favorite color combo on FB's 8),
Trev 8). Title: Re: DRAGWAYS OR NOT?????? Post by: customFC on May 05, 2007, 10:27:31 AM I'm voting for the whitewalls on the stockies.
Regards Alex Title: Re: DRAGWAYS OR NOT?????? Post by: TAYZ on May 05, 2007, 10:41:53 AM Gee nice flappers mini 8) 8) 8) I think it looks pretty good, but i may think you have the same problem at the moment that I have . The tyres are maybe a bit too small. Im about to by radials on the same size as crossplys I used to use. All the same thougnh it looks pretty good. Do you think that it would look better if you could see more black aftre the whitewall?? I reckon side and rear venetians would also make it blend in quite good too, Cheers
Tayz Title: Re: DRAGWAYS OR NOT?????? Post by: Ol_Girl_58 on May 05, 2007, 11:16:23 AM Dragways and flappers all the way, I reckon ;)
Drop it a few inches, and it will be looking sweeter still 8) regards, Ol Girl Title: Re: DRAGWAYS OR NOT?????? Post by: fe hotrod on May 08, 2007, 06:14:57 AM ;)i reakon it looks grouse with the dragways and flappers, and im not a big fan of dragways but i must say it does make a hell of a difference, just a bit lower, some venetions, and some dummy spots and it would be starting to look real custom....maybe even a visor?? cheers jamie
Title: Re: DRAGWAYS OR NOT?????? Post by: TTV6FC on May 08, 2007, 07:49:11 AM Seems you have a dilemma Mark.I also like both looks.Maybe just put the dragways on one side and the stockies on the other...hee hee.. ;D
Title: Re: DRAGWAYS OR NOT?????? Post by: Johns on May 08, 2007, 07:52:53 AM Very pretty car Mark.
As Tayz said, the tyres are too small for the bulk of the car as you have it set up. This is a problem with early Holdens and most old cars these days; that is the relationship between the overall wheel and tyre height and body height doesn't work with low profile tyres ( not taking into account the disastrous impact on the already short gearing they have with a 3.89 diff). Cars look their best and most dynamic if the wheel/tyres dominate or are a significant part of the car height. If you look at modern cars, the best looking of them have are very tightly drawn over a large wheel and tyre combo, think any BMW and the new Commodore for example. Its no different with early cars, for an old Holden that hasn't been chopped, sectioned or lowered to the point of being undriveable, reducing the overall wheel/tyre height makes them look odd, they look dumpy, if you look at the original photos they don't look dumpy at all, they look light on their feet. We are planting modern design on old design and unless it is done very carefully, we can muck it up. Wider wheels and tyres are nice, provided they are about the same overall size as original, it preserves the proportions - IMHO of course ;) If you must - wider wheels with tall tyres, for stockies this means 80 section tyres will make it look a treat, not only that it will drive properly. Old Holdens were not designed for radials, let alone low profile ones ;D Cheers John Title: Re: DRAGWAYS OR NOT?????? I'm with Alex on this. Flappers + stockies one set, Dragways + wider, high profile radials the other set. Cheers Brett Title: Re: DRAGWAYS OR NOT?????? Post by: FC_fer_me on May 09, 2007, 08:22:45 AM Hi Mark, I reckon the stockies are the way to go, then you could sell the dragways to me!!! He He ;D ;D ;D Seriously though, I'd get rid of the flappers and go the dragways with a higher profile tyre. Cheers Dave.
Title: Re: DRAGWAYS OR NOT?????? Post by: TAYZ on May 09, 2007, 08:38:43 AM Dave, yr not lost in the 80's are you??? ;D ;D ;D
( high doughnuts with white letters showing??... :)) Title: Re: DRAGWAYS OR NOT?????? Post by: OldGas on May 09, 2007, 10:20:37 AM The low photo looks realy good minifc , I think if the car sits right on the rim it will look best but it looks like you wont be able to drive it like that . Venetians would look good too.
I have a photobucket account but what is a harko ? Title: Re: DRAGWAYS OR NOT?????? Post by: FC0058 on May 09, 2007, 12:09:26 PM "WHAT IS A HARKO"
Harko is a person. Who is a great wealth of knowledge and a hell of a nice bloke, who's presence on this forum is sorely missed. Cheers Jim Title: Re: DRAGWAYS OR NOT?????? Post by: SRVLIVES on May 09, 2007, 07:42:43 PM (http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a48/minifcvan/dragwaysonfb001-1.jpg)

Title: Re: DRAGWAYS OR NOT?????? Post by: minifcvan on May 15, 2007, 05:13:13 AM Well guys a quick update. I put 215/50's on the back .I took it for its first real drive to Wagga then to Marrar then home about 130k's. I got down the street and had to kick the wifey out and made her drive her fb and i put 2 of my girls in the front cos it continually scraped on the back guard >:( >:(. After doing that it wasn't as bad but its not real practical kicking the missus out every time we want to go for a family drive( I KNOW ITS DEBATABLE :-X :-X :-X) so my options now are...
1. Put slimmer tyres on the back. 2. Punch out the back guard lip.. 3. Put stocks back on (but ive grown to quite like the dragways and flappers) 4.Put some 6" white rims on with the flappers (but ive grown to quite like the dragways and flappers) 5.Did i mention that ive grown to like the dragways and flappers?? ;D ;D Will make a choice this week and let you guy's know..heres a picture of our day (http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a48/minifcvan/15052007011.jpg) Cheers Mark Title: Re: DRAGWAYS OR NOT?????? Title: Re: DRAGWAYS OR NOT?????? Post by: collecta on May 23, 2007, 10:58:38 AM I say do it your way, it all looks good. Just picked up a set of these rims also , they are fitted with 50 series tyres, like you Mark i hate tyre scrape so practicallity always wins. thats why i like my skinny tyres and flappers on my ute, no scrape.
As a sixteen year old growing up in Mt Gambier, we also called these five spokes, skoggs or splatts after the man himself, any ideas as to where the term skoggs came from. cheers Scott Title: Re: DRAGWAYS OR NOT?????? Post by: minifcvan on May 23, 2007, 08:43:34 PM Iwent to wagga yesterday and got 205's put on the back of her.It only scrapes when ive got a full load in the back.Sorry scott i just call them dragways got no idea where that term came from but there will be someone on here who does.. ??? ???cheers mark
