Title: Trimatic detent cable?  Help?
Post by: Damon on September 26, 2002, 09:28:13 AM
I was wondering if some of you guys running red motors and trimatics could share  a little info on your detent setup?

I have got the accelerator and gear change sorted out nicely but don't have enough room on the firewall for the original cable HG set up that I had planned to use.
The accelerator set up that I have is a similar type to the original, (bent rod).
My engine/ auto set up came from an '71 HG.

I have been told that I could use an early commodore auto which apparently have an electric kickdown switch under the accelerator pedal?

Has anyone done this, and from what model commodore?

I would appreciate any comments from anyone with a cable or electric kickdown set up, as this is the last hurdle that i have before painting, (I hope)!

 ;)Hi Damon
Early model commodore trimatics have the selector shaft coming out of the left hand side and HG trimatics right hand side.
I have used a HQ-HZ trimatic with the accelerator and electric kickdown switch assembly.
  Hope this helps

Thanks ACE,
Does your selector sit on the drivers side or the passengers side?

I am assuming that the HQ-HZ trimatic is the same phisical size? I currently don't have a lot of room between the modified tunnel and the HG unit.  Also do you know if the yolk is the same size/spline?

Thanks Damon.
