Title: `Anyone going to wintersun?
Post by: fccool59 on February 24, 2007, 09:44:46 AM
Is anyone going up to wintersun from down this way around the 7th of june and heading back on the 11th around mid day, i am planning to go early, around 2-3 am from sydney on the 7th, i am hoping to finish the FC in time but if worse comes to worse and its not finished I will still be going.
If you are after cheap accomodation becuase you are a tight arse like me and you dont mind staying in a lodge built around the 40's becuase you like old stuff there is still accomadation at the whitehall lodge wich is in the wintersun area and is amongst all the shops and venues.
Unfortunately they have updated the bathrooms since i last stayed there and they no longer have 1940's toilets and showers.
cost is about $90 per room per night with 3 single beds or 2 double, min booking is 2 nights and there is a beer garden!
If you are interested in meeting to cruise up let me know.

Leon,

im interested, but im not keen on the 2-3 am start... that's not a cruise!

havent looked into accom yet. but the family is staying at home, so it's just me.

im thinking of taking the motorbike to do a few laps of the OXley highway on the way.

Cheers

Ed

Ed, it takes just over 9 hours to get there, we are now probably leaving at 4 am and dropping my step duahgter of at edgeworth(not far of the highway at 6 am) from then on it will be daylight and take 6 over 6 hours to get up their, i noticed there isnt a lot happening on the 7th so i am not so worried about getting their in the morning.
I have found trips leaving from sydney at early hours of the morning much better than starting of in peak hour and arriving at the destination at the end of the day, the kids want to go inside the big banana this time so we also have to pass through coffs through the day, i was hoping to cruise around the gold coast a bit after getting set up in the room.
i could meet up at thornleigh at about 4:30am.

sounds more reasonable.

i could probably stay at my folks place to get to thornleigh by then easily.

a cruise north isnt complete without a trip to the big banana, now complete with snow shed!

ive got to get cracking on my motor/box swap.

Cheers

Ed

PS weather is looking OK here, hope you get some good work done.

I'll be on the Gold Coast on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th, driving back Sunday. Will look out for you Leon.

Will you be the one under the big white ripped marquee ;-)

If I can find you count on a free bourbon, I think you need it after all the effort you've put in on your wagon.

Cheers,

Craig.

Leon,
Im  really keen.... thinking of flying up for a couple a days.  Got offered a ride from a bloke from work who goes every year, he is a Rock abilly and teaches rockabilly dance lessons and he gets right into the scene, he is 55 years old!!!!  Problem i got is no ride and no accomadation but Im still half keen ( I got a last man standing and  a offer from mini for the ek nats, but really swinging towards Wintersun, especially since Lee ROCKER will be making an appearance....!!!)

the place i am staying at may have a room for about $70 per night, they are a bit behind the times and dont advertise on the net so they dont book right out like everywere else, a few weeks ago i called and they said there was 3 rooms. its not in the centre of the action but it is in it.

see you there craig, i will be the one on the beach holding a sign with "FREE BOURBON PLEASE" on it under a ripped beach umbrella so i feel at home.

Whitehall Lodge's superior Guest house style accommodation, is central to Twin Towns Services Club and Centro Tweed Shopping Centre. Coach Transit Centre, Jack Evans Boat Harbour, Rainbow Bay, Coolangatta and the world famous Kirra Beach area.

most important part is the beer garden.

we will have a seat in the ford between newcastle and coolangatta on the way up if you can get a flight in on friday morning early but cant get one to coolangatta, we are coming back monday morning.

didnt know about lee rockers appearance, i will have to find my lee rocker(AKA LEON drucker ;D) cd and get it signed, last time i spent nearly an hour yacking with the owner of moon speed equiptment.

hmmm

a few things have come up, which may end my
namely the wagon is sans running gear as we speak.

first hurdle is getting it back together.

then may need to go O/S as Isabelle's father is sick  :(

Me & "The Fam" are going down on Sat. for a look.We go every year for a few days, but this time due to lack of finance we're just cruisin down for the day. Also last year we had one bub & the boot & back seat of the FC was chockers, this year theres 2 bubs so l would need a B- double trailer for all the crap.
Looking forward to it,but l'm gunna miss not entering the nite-cruise, its a blast!
Hopefully l'll try to catch up with a few of you guys if you make the trip up!       Daz.

been there done that, we did a few trips in the FC with 2 under 3 and a bigger kid, thats 3 kids but babies take up about touble the amount of space in all the junk that comes with them, plus a baby seat and capsule, even having a wagon we would try and pack the car and then have too shed some gear and cut down to the necessities becuase it wouldnt all fit, the back of the wagon would be packed to the roof with blankets and clothing.

we should organise a meeting point with any members going, maybe on sat or sun lunchtime.

Hi all,
I might be able to make it for the day on Saturday, it would be good to meet up with some of you blokes from down south.  Maybe organise somewhere to meet during the day, I haven't been there before so wouldn't know where to start.

My wife just got a new job and they asked her to start today so i will not be able to get up now till saturday unless i go by myself, she is working in the city so if i go with my wife i will be picking her up and heading straight up from about 6pm friday night, looks like i will loose a night of my accomadation.
I would say on saturday at around 1:30-2pm i will be around the bottom road near the beach amongst the cars.
my phone number is 0401089461

been & gone, the missus was pretty pissed about going up in the weather, fortunately she didnt jump out and hitch home becuase the weather was clear after the first few hours, she said  the F3 was blocked but it turned out the pacific hwy was due to a landslide so i turned around and headed up the F3, it was fine except for the trees that i had to keep dodging @ 110 kph, got to edgeworth and we were the only car amongst the SES 4wd's, i wasnt to worried, and soon after i was out of the bad weather but then i got mud bombed by dickheads hiding in the bush, i pulled over and will i was getting my wheel brace out of the boot about 10 semis pulled up on each side hwy after word spread on the CB that the mud bombers were out so we went bush walking to find them but had no luck.

we finally arrived to the start of a day of perfect weather.

My kids favourite part was the cruizing, i like the night stuff too, they should make it go all nigt with the bands on the sidewalks at the same time.

while the weather in sydney was not the best we were out in the sun at some of the beaches.

That far from home i ran into the couple my wife and i met through and also my cousin who i havent seen for about 14 years.

in the trip we also visited the big attractions like the big banana in coffs harbour.

Nobby's is my old hang out, when i drove up along the tugs and saw the big ship there i almost pissed myself.
looks like someone forgot the handbrake.
