Title: Push rods Post by: smithy on January 23, 2007, 11:08:12 PM hey all, can someone shed a little light on which is the correct push rod to use when putting a 12 port 202 head onto a 186 block.

I'm doing a similar conversion at the moment and intend to use a reground blue motor cam, lifters and push rods. I think you could use either red or blue motor push rods and machine or shim rocker posts to suit.Blue motor push rods may be stronger.I'm still working out which holes to drill in the head or block and what holes get blocked and with what ???I'm thinking of machining the block and fitting small brass welsh plugs. re push rods, the good oil i have at the moment is to use the pushrods from the donor head (blue head= blue rods). if you intend on running roller rockers you will need to get the posts machined down to accept them, you apparently also need to do this if you want to run adjustable rockers, like from a 186. on the block subject, there are 2 ways you can do this, depending on how far you really want to go. first to drill the holes get the head gasket for the blue head and lay it onto your block. straight away you will see 4 holes in the gasket that are not in the block, these are the ones you drill out. ignore the hole in the gasket which is on the left ( above where the fuel pump goes) mark the holes, centre punch them and on a lowish drill speed go for it. drill the holes smaller than the gasket i used a 7 mm bit. when it comes to blocking off the holes in the block which are not needed you can either just use the head gasket ( i have been told buy a guy who used to race holdens, that this will be strong enough) or you can tap the block and use a grub screw and seal them that way. you just have to make sure that the srews sit flush or below the head abviously. im just using the gasket. let me know if you want some pics as i am at a stage where i can do this easily. good luck, the hardest part i found was the first time i drilled a hole in a perfectly good block :-/ :-/ cheers dean Title: Re: Push rods Post by: ACE on January 30, 2007, 01:13:18 AM Hey Smithy,
