Title: drum brake query Post by: Rabbitoh on October 11, 2006, 08:51:17 PM Have noticed the wheel cylinder adjusting cap on my LF wheel extends out quite a bit more on one side than the other. 1. Is this a problem? 2. Can I just open the bleeder and squeeze it back in to match the "good"side (and adjust the brake shoe clearance to take up the slack)?
My concern is it might 'pop off' under heavy braking. R. Title: Re: drum brake query Post by: mcl1959 on October 12, 2006, 08:16:24 AM Assuming the brake shoes are worn the same (ie the same thickness of lining front and rear) then the brake shoes should be equi spaced in the centre of the brake drums.
Just wind one out the same turns as you wind the other one in as a start then adjust the shoes in the normal fashion. If one shoe is more worn than the other then you would expect that one adjuster would be wound further out than the other one. The linings appear to be the same thickness (about 3mm- is this thick enough?). I have tried squeezing the offending adjusting cap back onto the cylinder (it looks close to falling off to me), but it won't budge. Do I need to open the bleeder valve to do this? I have also noticed this wheel seems to drag a bit after braking ie. shoes are not returning immediately after release of brake pedal.
