Title: The boat to Tassie
Post by: weddo on April 04, 2013, 01:39:42 PM
BOOKINGS FOR THE SPIRIT OF TASMANIA.

The "Spirit" are in the process of changing their group booking system from when we initially received our "quotation" over twelve months ago, so we have had to wait.

The system will be an online link to the Tassie Nationals section of their web page which they will have operational shortly "Our reservation system will be open for bookings for your requested dates in approx May 2013 and until then your request has been placed on file"

When the system comes on line shortly we will notify every one through this media of the process to log on.

In essence they will hold space for approximately one month either side of the nationals and guarantee space for approx ten days either side.
They only offer "best price" at the time for single bookings but I believe those clubs or groups that may want to book for 18 people or more will get a discounted rate, but don't hold me to that.
I will be advising them of approximate numbers after the entries for the Nationals close. (entry forms soon)

Regards

Bill & Judi Wedd

How long is an FC Station Sedan ?  ???

a quick measure with a ruler in the dark  ::)

I get 6.2 meters (including tow bar)
which means I can't book online  :(

would I get away with ticking the 5.3m - 6m box ?

and it doesn't mention it on the website
but I assume they tie the cars onto the deck of a rolling ship

I wouldn't trust the dodgy handbrake on my FC  :o

Hi Surferboy,
Factory specs 176 inches overall length with bumpers. This converts to 4.470 metres. Add another foot for the towbar 300mm

So time for you to buy a new tape  ;) Total length = 4.770 metres

Cheers

Must be one of those old 12 inch school rulers with a half-inch of blank at either end. You're not supposed to include that. :D

All booked
(I hope  :-\.. I did it on the computer booking thing  :o)
sailing to the Nats on thurs 10th
sailing home on Tues 22nd

Borrowed a real tape measure from the handyman neighbour, slid it under the wagon to accurately measure bumper to bumper (tow bar)
4.6mtrs (give or take a couple of mm)
(Then I wiped off all the oil and gave it back  ;D)

I might go buy one for myself and keep it in the shed with my bent screwdriver and wobbly headed hammer

Nope.
Last time I went across, you drove the car below decks and just parked it really close to other cars (and the wall).
NO tiedowns.
The weather was exceptionally foul and all night I could hear banging and crashing, thinking my car was being smashed to bits.
But no, next morning everything was OK.
Don't worry.

Cheers,
Prof.

After all the cars are parked and the deck sealed off to passengers the cars are chained to the decks... You can see the tie down points as you get off the car.
Cheers

We are booked on the boat.
Yay now I have to remember how to write in here every time Fred leaves his page unattended.
Road trip.  Can't wait.
If I remember correctly we have to go via Darwin and Perth to get the longest distance 2 times in a row.
Very excited now
