Title: gearbox
Post by: Dave_EH on October 13, 2004, 08:17:44 AM
Hi,

I just wondered whether anyone has a 3 speed manual box to suit an EH that they may have been running on a red motor?

I have terrible noise at a certain speed in 3rd gear and i think a new box could be the quick fix.

Regards
Dave

Hi Dave

The guy I just bought the old EK ute shell off (See Cars for Sale section) also had a Red 161 with gearbox for sale. I did take a picture of it if you are interested.

The 3 speed attached to the 161 had a floor shifter. He wants $100 for complete engine/gearbox.

sounds like an option.  a reco is $420 for the crash box, for that price i could buy an M20, 1 ton shifter and have the bench modified - but i'd like to keep it on the tree.

Does anyone know exactly what boxes bolt "straight in"?

do you know the condition of the 3 speed?

cheers
Dave

Dave

I just spoke with the guy again. It has been out of a car about 18 months. He said it was in good condition when he removed it (Body was rusted out).

The EK ute body is going to SLIM in Liverpool (sometime over the next week or so) so you could maybe piggyback that if interested.

Hi Nicko,

Is your mate in Hervey Bay as well? I'm in Brisbane so could easily pick it up some time, or get it sent down.

As long as its in good nick im pretty interested - a reco seems very expensive.

Is there any difference between an HR and EH crash box?

cheers
Dave

p.s. any luck with the FE sale? I'd love to snap it up of i had the cash...can't wait to finish uni!

I lived at Union college for 4 years. Pharmacy degree, but that was a lot of years ago...... apparently.

I maintained a record of returning to the Gold Coast at least once a week for 4 years. Now that's commitment.  :) I had this unreasonable fear of becoming a "Brizzo". I survived.

Hope to catch up some time.

Hey Nicko,

Just wondered if you'd had a chance to look at that gearbox yet?

Theres no real hurry - but im just keeping an eye out for one still, so would be great to know if you think the HR box is a goer.

thanks for your help
Dave
