Title: extra gauges
Post by: Phantom on June 04, 2006, 09:55:02 AM
G'day all,Another dumb question but someone has to ask them i suppose. Has anyone fitted extra gauges ie temp , oil, volts etc? and where did you stick them, seems limited room under the dash, what about where the radio cover sits ? is it possible to modify that area to accomodate gauges? Some pics would be great if possible.

There have been lots of ideas for gauge positions, modifying the dash and the speaker grille included. A clever one that I have not seen on an FC (yet) but I heard has been done on an EK/FB is to put the gauges in the ashtray. Still keeping the lid operational so that you can tuck them away.

Here are a couple of pics the first two are a couple that RET posted for me -

And my dash of course  ;D

Hey all!..My fe has the gauges tucked into the ashtray housing. The ashtray lid is permanently open and the two gauges are mounted on a painted metal plate.Easily removed,so you can go back to original if required.Looks reasonably neat, and fairly  simple to do.The CD player is mounted in the radio grill, this was done by previous owner and again looks ok.Will post pics when i can.......Cheers jimmys57

hey thanks Rusty glad you like it..

The dash is all metal.

2 dashboards cut and shut, shortened on drivers side, streatched across to meet the glovebox.

here is a pic of the dash in the build process.. was a bit of a jigsaw really, with glovebox, bits of EK door tops, exhaust tube etc.

the most difficult bit being how to attach it to the car.  it uses the original long screws plus one clip.

Cheers

You could put the gauges in the centre where I have the aircond coming out.

The centre is a block of timber that I carved out... You could also create this out of a block of aluminium.

Cheers
Jason.
