if you are doing a rust repair it makes more sense to use 18 gauge because by the time youve ground down your weld on the butt weld you have less chance of paper thin metal
trust me ive fixed those problems for people

Trouble I have Wayno is grinding through the original material, not the new bit. I probably need to make my patches bigger and cut out a larger area to get good tin. If I can get behind it I will lay beads parallel to the joint on the old stuff.

you need to take off the weld trying not to hit original metal at all, untill right at the end.it takes lots of practice

Thanks. I’ll give it a try. I’ve been starting with a little build on the old bit. Shallow angle square to cut. Seems to dissipate the heat and prevent blowing through.

Nor sure if you have found the tailgate skin. I have used Ray Taylors pieces and they are good as has been said.
But Craig Venn at Rust a Problem makes good ones too.
He is up near Maryborough in Qld and easy to deal with as well.
I do not know the prices quoted but I believe that Rare Spares have theirs made by "others" anyway.
Let us know how you get on it helps to know the current status of parts suppliers.
