Hi all.

I notice that FE Special wagons have stainless gutter moulds, yet my mid 59 FC Special wagon does not.

Some of the factory publicity shots of FCs look as though they have moulds Huh

Can someone clarify?

Thanks
John

G'day John, If you want wagon gutter moulds for an FC you will have to backtrade to an FE Wagon  Wink

To my knowledge the gutter moulds were dropped for FC and were used for FE 225 Sedan & FE 229 Station Sedan only

John
The wagon moulds could be retro fitted but not as made, no FC Wagons had the stainless moulds on the gutter lines. Though i think they did look good maybe they were dropped for a cost saving?

Chrome gutter mould was never original equipment on any FC.  Remember that the first release FC had the roof and insert (top of doors) the same colour, so there wasn't any need for a chrome divider.  Later models did have different colours here, and retro-fitting the FE gutter mould was a bit of "bling".

However, "Financially Compromised" is about right.  GM-H wanted to keep the price of the FC the same as the FE, and took a variety of measures to do so, such as producing a minimal number of interior colours (cut from 12 combinations to 7), and removing non-essential features like proper armrests, boot lining and so on.

To be fair, these savings had to be found to cover the costs of improvements to body-strength and engine during the life of the FE that was eating into the profit margin.

cheers
