I am fitting a v6 into my fc, I have a triple cored a std radiator. I am wondering what fans others have used and their CFM capacity. Remember I live in North Qld (yes cowboys country). So it does get hot up here.

I used the thermofans from te VT when I did the van with the V6 and cut down the VT radiator to suit. The van never once got hot, but probably not the answer you are looking for.
Cheers

Hi Freddy,
I had an FE with a 192 and a triple cored original radiator with a Davies Craig electric fan. Can't recall the exact specs but the shroud was the width of the radiator.
The fan had a thermo switch and didn't need to run most of the time. I had a green LED on the dash to show me when it was running. It'd usually kick in at the lights after an extended stop but it'd flick off shortly after moving away.
The only time i had a cooling concern was in an extremely hot day out at Parkes where it got quite hot but still didn't boil.
Different size motor I know but maybe that might help a bit.
Regards, Martyn

Hi Fred,
I am running an ecotec V6 in my FC and I fitted a HQ V8 triple cored radiator with a Ford Mondeo shrouded twin thermo fan setup. I have had no trouble with overheating but remember the V6 thermostat doesn't open until the motor reaches 92 degC and under normal running conditions will sit on about 98 degC which is considerably hotter than the old Holden 6. Hope this helps, Jack

Hi Fred,
Speak to a radiator specialist for the CFM rating required.
It's also important to invest in a radiator shroud as to maximise cooling.
Air flow takes the path of least resistance so simply attaching a fan only to the radiator will not give you optimized cooling even though many have been fitted this way with little or no overheating issues with all sort of engine configurations.
The correct rated radiator pressure cap should also be used for the engine so the thermostat opens at its rated specification and engine runs at correct operating temperature .
Your radiator should be tested to see if it can handle the higher pressure.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards
Seb

a std vr v6 commodore thermo fan pulls 1350 cfm, I have ordered a spal 1500 cfm and will fit a shroud as well.
