can you tell me a bit about the new radiator you are using . i.e brand ,size, contact ,price .  looks good

Hi, you can get them through Ebay. Its a 3 core so its a little thicker but same width as the original one - designed to bit in an FC.

We are putting original recon grey back in. The radiator is aluminium so will have to put I think an organic coolant in it so there's no reaction between the two - I think that's how it goes but will be checking with our mate who knows the ins and outs about this.

I'm looking at using Septone Chassis Black under my ute - taking the opportunity atm while the front end is off to get inside the wheel wells as well.

Not sure about prep for it - i'm cleaning wire brushing and rust converting, but is a primer needed under Chassis Black or does it go straight on?

TIA
225  Technical Board / Restoration Help / tonneau covers on: May 16, 2017, 10:21:35 PM
Any advice on sourcing a soft tonneau cover for an FC.
Do any modern ones fit, or must they be custom made. What would be a ball park for a custom made one?
Pros/cons of an 'original' cover v getting new one.

Ute came with an inlet manifold for Nikki carbies, not doing that, my clever hubby found a lovely couple who were happy to swap it for a manifold complete with twin carbies and the linkage to boot :-) will need to put a kit through the carbies but can't complain about this swap.

Gent who took it didn't have a use for it - yet -lol,  but had never seen one before and was very happy also.

If doing it at home - think my fuel tank is not in too bad a nick - how does everyone recommend how to clean the inside.

229  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Window Winders on: May 06, 2017, 10:00:04 AM
Hi all
I think the same style of window winder handles went on a few early holden models, but I'm wondering if there is any difference and ways to identify them.

We've got a box of winder handles, so far I can tell two different groups.

One with 232 stamped on them and the pattern on them is much sharper than the other group.

Second group has the same pattern but it is not as sharp, have different numbers (need a bit more cleaning to see them) and a few different casting marks which the first group don't have.

May come down to nothing as we will end up picking the bests ones to go in the cars, but if we have a choice would be nice to match them up to the correct model. And if there is a difference always good to know.

TIA

Old front end is now down and out.

Plans changed slightly. we have striped the front end we were going to use as not everything was quite lined up right, those engine mounts are rougher than we thought and one of the wishbones is also out of wack, so using the good bits to complete another front end that is in much better shape and another set of wishbones. Fingers crossed for the second one

And an FE

Checking out the headlight surrounds with my new car knowledge - one's a Lucus and one was a Bosch - don't tell anyone :-)

Checking out the weathershield - and also the chrome on the windscreen realising I'm missing the top piece, not the bottom one for my ute - lol

Looks fantastic. Great photo.

I think they are HR era but I like them.  Smiley

Cheers Stewy   Cool

There were "Deluxe Wheel Embellishers" that were stamped out like that, my pic is not a good quality one so can't see it well - but I'ld go with that - looks great :-)

We have a couple to chose from - but are going with the reconditioned grey that came with the car. We understand its been bench started but hasn't been run in a car. The front end is set up with the front mounts so if I decide I bigger engine would be preferred we can just swap them over.

May have been different story if was to be a daily driver or long distance but only intending to club rego her and go to nearby shows / day trips....

Baffle and grill out ready to start working on the front end and getting an engine in a bit easier.

Nice shiny new radiator arrived today, just sitting in, looks like it may be a good fit. Old one is apparently a bit past it and this one is a little thicker. May have to get a thermofan - depending on how much room we actually end up with

Oh - heres a goal to aim to have my ute all done - and possibly the resto on the  vintage van to go with it - though hubby said we'll still be getting a cabin (the vvan is a tad small for him :-( - perfect size for me - its a 10fter :-) )

238  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Windscreen trims for FC Ute on: April 25, 2017, 11:23:27 AM
Hi all, we have chrome trim for the front windscreen - only the top and two sides. I do recall seeing a vehicle with only the three sides and the bottom edge was just rubber. I know they came without the trim as well, but were they done with just three sides, or was the other vehicle just missing the bottom trim from the front like me?
tia

PS the are not installed, looking at putting the windscreens back in.
239  General / General Board / Re: Headlight surrounds on: April 23, 2017, 09:03:36 AM
Super info guys - answered my question before asking - just looking at cleaning up the headlight surrounds and putting them back on my Ute - we have 5 to choose from and I noted two types - now I know for sure two are Lucas and three are Bosch (yep it does say it inside). I note someone has mentioned they have slightly different profiles so will have to think about having two the same as well as which ones still have the best chrome on them.

Looks like a really good ute. Do you have a pic of the ID plate. I collect the data for research.

Regards Ken
