I would like to own that car...

Postage would be a bugger though!

Title: So what would it be worth?

How would you value the car - given the description on ebay? Seems pretty well looked after and it does look well. Seems a very reasonable starting price anyway.

Don't worry about that one what about the other black FE special?  I think I would rather the other one with all the accessories.
How rare is that, 2 all-black FE specials for sale at the same time.

Freaky that this one has come up within 24 hours of the first - I had to go out into the shed to check that mine was still there  :o  Me thinks this one might have a replacement motor though!

But hey, good looking car - you can't beat original black with red. All it needs is a set of 14" Coker wide whites and flipper hubcaps - no wait, that would almost make it my car !  8)

I thoroughly agree with you Hewart - but then I could be a little biased  ;)

Very nice original looking car at a good price, shouldn,t have any trouble selling it, I wonder why it has an FC horn ring and speaker grill fitted, also I presume one of the owners wanted a red motor but couldn,t afford the real thing ;D ;D.

I can see why the first one's up for sale - a new baby and that white interior won't go together ;)

The second one is sensational looking. That interior of Fall Red over Fall Red is very unusual. All the other FE Special interiors ($2) are two very distinct colours.

cheers

Hi Ret, the single colour Fall Red interior is certainly not unusual to me! But I guess I never really considered that maybe there are not too many black with red trim ones out there. I did know of a couple in SA but that was probably some 20 years ago.

If anyone is interested here's a little story about how I got mine.

My dad's Uncle Stan was visiting his brother at work one day (Elizabeth GMH) and fell in love with the yet-to-be-released FE's.  He immediately ordered a black one and didn't care that he had to wait until November 1956 to get it. He only really drove it from his home in Prospect to the North Adelaide pub (and I remember as a kid my dad pointing it out there on many occasions).

In October 1983, when he couldn't drive anymore, he told dad he wanted to sell it to someone who would look after it. Dad suggested I get it as a first car - so for $200 I got a one owner black with red trim FE Special Sedan with 68,142 mile on the odo (yes, I think he lived at the pub!).

When I got it the paint looked like a blackboard from years of oxidisation but after a concerted effort it looked pretty good. I'd only polished the driver's half of the car when dad took it up to show him - he brought him out to see the "blackboard" passenger side and he was carrying on about how happy he was that I was looking after it.  The he went round to the driver side and just about had a heart attack! :o

Almost 25 years down the track I still have it with no intention of selling. It had a full rebuild just before Xmas 1989 and, despite the 14" rims, it is still pretty stock.  After the two hour trip out to Tanunda and then back today it has now done 133,960 miles (obviously I don't drink as much as him  ;) ).

I am so very glad my dad's Uncle Stan had the vision (and patience) to order a black one.  I have definitely benefited from his decision - I absolutely love the combination and would never think of changing it.  You can't beat it - but I could be a little biased.  ;D

Sorry, that should have read Woodville GMH above - it was my dad who mainly worked at Elizabeth (he started at Woodville in 1946). Geez, how could I stuff that one up.

Now here's something impressive! True story - my dad was responsible for rolling out the red carpet for the Queen's visit to Elizabeth.  He always said he would he wondered if he would have been sacked if she tripped up!  ;D

We even have a copy of the GMH People magazine March 1963, Volume 15 Number 5 that has the a picture on the front cover of the Queen walking up the steps on the red carpet.  Wow - how impressive is that ?  ;D

So, on re-reading the above entry I am yet to work out how to inflect a tone of sarcasm for others to accurately interpret.  :D

But hey, our family all thought it was quite funny about the red carpet and the Queen - especially seeing as dad would have loved for Australia to become a republic before he died!

Will go now and leave you all in peace - the body is falling apart these days and a, just starting to feel the effect of driving the FE for well over 4 hours today (FE = F'n Effort?). That being said, I'll still keep driving it until I need the zimerframe.  ;D

Soooooo Mr NosFEratu, I'd guess that these pics would be of your little beastie then?
I have spotted a few times here and there, mainly at Hot Rod gigs.

Wow
Your car is awesome.
Love the shine.
So, tell us, what role did your dad play in the building of your car on the assembly line?

How about starting a thread in Members cars and show us some more pics of your car. Got any from your childhood as well?

Wow - what a shock this morning. You have sprung me good and proper Stinky.  And by the way that would be Ms NosFEratu to you and all others. ;)

Yep, I hang out mainly at rod related events - know a lot of the guys through being heavily involved with the Hot Rod and Street Machine Shows back in the 80's with my ex (think "train" at Birdwood Mill).  Hey, If you care to go back through your SMASA history you will also find that in the mid 80's I used to be heavily involved there too - I was the first female State Steward in Australia.  I was also awarded a honorary life time membership to the ASMF around 1988/89 for services rendered (now that description sounds good - doesn't it?). So I have been around cars for a long, long time.

Yes, I spend a lot of time polishing my car to show off the chrome against the black. Anyway, my body is starting to pack it in from years of dancing & gymnastics and it is a bit of an effort these days.  I used to cut it by hand but my current husband John (or Van Helsing as I call him because of the van and the fact that he is always trying to keep control of me) bought me a Rupes for my 40th and since then has since got me a nice little array of Shinano air buffers - and he knows he is not allowed anywhere near them!  If you happen to have any 1980 hot rod show photos you might see my sister and I on stage dancing. Now lets see if you have any of those photos in your grab bag Stinky!

Yes, I have been thinking of posting some shots of my baby.  Will get some scanned in and posted as soon as I can - I even have a "blackboard" shot from when it first came home.

No my dad didn't have an input to my car on the line - he was the Maintenance Foreman at GMH - but unbeknownst to him he probably saw it go down the line!

Wow - I'm totally blown away Stinky ;D

Hi Stinky, knew that one should be pretty easy for you to find in the SMASA archives - back in it's original condition days pre 1989.  The one in the background was mine and the ex's two tone blue V6FC - don't know where it ended up - he sold it after I left.  I was more worried about having to leave my windowless FE van behind - fortunately John and I bought it again (by pure accident) last year.   :o

There's probably not too many pics of my car at any shows.  I personally like to drive - not show - cars.  I like the freedom of arriving when I want and leaving when I want – that’s why you will usually see my baby in the car park.  I’ve had too many years of being stuck at shows, after spending days/weeks polishing and prepping. Also spent too many days cleaning the underside of the ex's car (the "train") after having driven it interstate for shows before he arrived later to help set it up for shows.  Aaah - I don't really miss it at all.  Let me drive 'em - that's where the real enjoyment is.   ;D

Will post some pics of “NosFEratu” and “VanHelsing” when I get a chance.  Might even throw one up of the “58” to whet your appetite!

Still reeling from this morning …. Kathi  (aka NosFEratu  8) )

Looking forward to the pics.
Sounds like you have some interesting cars in your past as well as your present.
When you talk about "the Train", are you refering to Midnight Express?
I saw the ME at the 5th Street Machine Nats in Canberra in '82.
That van had/has the best murals ever placed on a car in Australia.
A work of art!!!

and the winner for correctly guessing the latest cryptic clue is ......... CustomFC ;D

Like I said, been round a lot of car shows in my younger years! And yep, I spent many days polishing them thar murals to bring them up to scratch for shows seeing as it was driven regularly.  And yes, they were, and still are a great work of art!

I've not seen the black with red interior combo on an FE/FC before, but it's much more "common" on FJs.....

There are a few more pics of your car floating around from something called "Tanunda cruise"

Hi Hewart

This is getting a little embarassing!  :-[

Yep, you will usually see it at the Valley Rodders "Cruise On" on the Saturday night.  It's a great night - they block off the main street at 4pm and line it with cars.  This year's street party had a phenomenal amount of cars and people there - it was little cooler than usual so I guess that helped.

Anyone who is over here in SA on the 3rd Saturday night in January should check it out - they do have a complete weekend event but we normally just go out there for the Saturday night.  It's a great show of cars and I highly recommend it to all.

I am getting sprung good and proper - aren't I ??  I am humbled (and no, I'm not joking) that you and Stinky (and maybe some others) have thought enough of my car to take some photos.  Thanks :-*

If you didn't drive it so much and put it in a few shows there'd be heaps more photos  ;D
Love the car, I reckon if you were at the Nats you might have clinched a trophy or three, if not a Top 10.
Now start up a thread in the "Real Cars" section before I start one for you :P

Going in circles....

Hey, it's exciting! I can well understand his enthusiasm! It's not only a fun experience for him but he's got "bragging rights" - it's for his son and it's gonna go half way round the world! ;D

Hope your dad's road trip goes well and that he, and the car, get home safely and in one piece!

Paul,
Be very, very wary if your Dad says that he smashed it up and it is no good to send to you anymore. :-[

Demand indelible proof that it is indeed your car. You never know but you may just have bought dear old Dad a nice car. :)
