The "jewels" are plastic and the bevel is chromed mild steel.  Once you have inserted them, you twist the tabs to hold them in place.

The glass blue dots are better...give a much better glow. Most Hot Rod shops can supply blue dot's.
I fitted blue dot's to my car many years ago into the reflector, but they did not give off a glow as the light needs to be inline with the blue dot. The EK would be better due to the light location. When I installed the bubble lenses, I fitted them to the inner lense with a light right behind, but this still does not work, as the red outer lense seems to filter the blue out.
