Hi Harko,
Thanks for your reply.
The Badge is approximately 50mm in diameter with 2 locating pins on the back and appears to be off a car.
I think it may be off a "Holden Export" The Shield at the top of the badge looks FE-FC ish.
Anyone else got any ideas?

Hi ACE.
That badge is VERY similar to a badge I have seen on an early Chevy Impala. Maybe that is what they called the Holden exports? Does the little badge (Holden sheild) come off, or is it totally cast in? Reason being, is there is a car in our club that has a couple of those sheilds on the doors. They are off something else.

Hey Ace, That badge belongs to a rare limited run of FC utes for the Northern Territory Cattle Industry, they were known as the MOO LOO  Shocked Shocked Shocked note the horns. Wink

It's off a Mazda.

No, seriously.
My understanding is that it is off a Mazda, I think the model was a Pacer or Pacemaster. The badge sits on the rear pillar. I remember seeing something about it years ago in Custom Rodder or restored Cars. It was an export deal or something in the 70's.

If it is cast in one piece then it is a repro badge made in China.  I have dozens of the small badges at the top - they are sealed on a cardboard back with a shrinkwrap and printed "made in China"  Made about 1960-1970.
Otherwise it is certainly an Impala badge with one of the little Chines badges stuck on with glue which makes it look like it is cast in one piece.
The little Chinese badges are distinctive in that the lion is pretty poor quality in shape and looks a little wrong when you compare it to the FC lion.

I can't add anything to the debate on the badge, although I'll go along with Ken's theory.

But the export car that Alex referred to is the "Roadpacer", which were basically HJ Premier bodies sold to Mazda, fitted with a Rotary and set upon the Japanese motoring public.  The 202 HJ was a complete slug, can't imagine how underwhelming the Roadpacer must have been Roll Eyes

cheers

roadpacer pic on the way. i dont recall seeing this badge on the r.p. this is believed to be the only one in existance...mazda have made good offers to buy it back for thier own museum, but if its the only one, theres no need to jump in too quick.they were imported by mazda to compete with cars like the crown & were extremely well decked out , with stuff like a 6pk fridge in the rear pcl shelf.(a feature that should be in any aussie car) .it belongs to a bloke in perth..bob ridley.he has a huge collection..mostly holdens...he has at least 1 of every model from 1948 to 1975.another  special interest car in his collection is an opel monza...vl coupe (could have been a monaro)i'm sure we can arange a visit during the wa nationals??

I think Alex may be right, as he is the second person that has mentioned the "Mazda Roadpacer".
The badge is definately cast in one piece and maybe the Chinese copied from these.
Robbzfc58. Any chance of getting a pic of the rear quarter pillar badge?
Thanks for your help,

Unique Cars did a feature on the Roadpacer in the May 2003 issue. A very interesting read.

I've found my copy and there are various pictures of the car, but none of them show this type of badge.

Cheers,

Craig.

Hi.
If you look real close at the front grille badge, it looks like it may be a similar design. But, I have my doubts about Mazda having ANY badges with Holden on them. Will stand corrected, but it just seems odd. I would still lean towards the theory that it is off an export model. Maybe the HQ Kommando range, or similar (But then again, why would they put Holden on it??).

i can't see mazda using a holden badge , but if they did i doubt that it would be  a 50s style one.some mid 70s mazdas had a "gf" logo on them.thats what the grill badge looks like to me.i have no idea what that stands for (in mazda lingo)

Well, you guys have forced me into doing something I don't really want to do. I am going to have to check to see if I have that issue of restored cars with the details on that badge and the Mazda that it belongs to.  Now where did I put those RC mags. They're amongst the 100's of car mags somewhere. Grin
