Hi Jon, Extractors are not the normal early Holden type. You might have hassles with roadworthy guys being that close to the chassis. The engine angle is determined by the carby needing to be level. Easy way to check is with a spirit level in both directions across the top of the carby. Doesn't have to be spot on but the closer the better. Where the engine mounts have been welded on the crossmember and the rear gearbox mounts are positioned is about the only way of adjusting that.

Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Brake Booster selection

The existing booster will do the job if you're using soft pads as the legality is determined by brake pedal effort. The larger booster reduces the amount of effort required. You will also need to run matching rear wheel cylinders to prevent lock up.

RET, It wouldn't be a problem hosting early. I'm keen and the Vic club is going strong with good membership & sitting pretty financially. Feeling amongst the members at the meeting (if we were to host) was very good. It's a bit sad I've missed the Qld show but am now looking to Canberra Nats. Have been to 3 others so I know what a great time I'll be missing. cheers, Leigh

Lookin' good Craig, I'd come over and give you a hand to re-assemble but it'd be a bit of a drive for me after any late nights. Who's a lucky boy having a painter in the family? and hey - there's no such thing as a bad colour on FE's or FC's. Good luck at the Nats. cheers, Leigh

General / FE-FC Holden Nationals / Nationals Timing

At our club meeting last Tuesday, one of our members put forward a very interesting suggestion about the timing of the Nats. The proposal will be taken to Queeensland for discussion at the delegates meeting but I thought some general opinions would be good as well. Wayne's suggestion was to bring forward the 2007 Nationals (still at Easter) to line up with the 50th anniversary year of the birth of the FE (in 2006). The follow on from that would also mean the 2008 Nats would be in line with the FC's Golden year. How does the proposal sound? cheers, Leigh

For personal reasons I had to cancel my trip to the Nats but waited right up to the entry deadline before making it a final decision (as I was really keen to go). After reading the Qld. club February newsletter, I notice they are still accepting entries and I might still have made it there had I known this. Wots going on Queensland!!

Unfortunately I have had to cancel my trip to the Nats. and now must give up the booking I had at Isle of Palms Resort. Anyone needing a unit there can take over my booking for the $100 deposit I made. You'll need to be quick tho' as I'm cancelling the booking at the end of month. cheers, Leigh

I think you've all jumped the gun a little. As I read the original message, Russell doesn't seem to be planning a book on how to get off speeding or drink driving offences. There is a comma after "how to avoid getting a ticket" and avoiding getting a ticket would surely include not speeding and not dui. Who knows some of his tips might even include safe driving methods. I'm sure after spending his time as a HWP cop he'd not want to see any more of us scraped of the road. ... and no, I'm not an ex copper or anything like that, I just know there are some decent ones mixed in with the mongrels. I've also been pinged twice for speeding in the FC and as we all agree about paying the fine if you do the crime, I had to coff up the hard earned. (crappy photos weren't even good enough to frame as proof it went fast) cheers, Leigh

Nick, I formed new corners on the rubbers with black silastic once the glass settled. I masked with tape and smoothed off with a rag and/or finger soaked with mineral turps. Makes it look a lot better. The original seals had a squarish corner section but the replacement ones now have taken a short cut. Leigh

Nick, I had to Remove/fit the rear glass to my wagon a couple of times due to doing different jobs at different times - painting the roof again etc.etc. Wasn't too bad a job & sounds like you're going about it close to the right way. To make it easy, I made up a solution of 50/50 dishwashing liquid/water in a squirty bottle & gave the body & seal a good dose. Makes everything real slippery & the window pops in without any heavy bashing. Just need to give it a thump to settle the seal and bingo. After a few days the solution evaporates from inside the seal & if needed you can then use some sealant. Leigh

I've fitted twin carbs to a few greys I've owned & never regretted the move. Fitted in conjunction with extractors, the power improvement (albeit small on a stock motor) is well appreciated. On a stock motor you need to run 2 stock carbies which should be in good condition if you want good fuel economy. cheers, Leigh

Hi Graham, Overlays look great and it's fantastic someone is going to the trouble - so well done. I already have a GB and the boot badge is fair enough (best part of the car at the moment) but I just wanted to make a comment. cheers, Leigh

Hi John, I've helped fit a Trimatic in two FC's now & all that is needed is a little massaging of the floor near the original inspection plate. This gives the tranny a little extra room to move. cheers, Leigh

Hi Yogie, Original brakes are under achievers I reckon, so if you're fitting a red you will need better brakes. Go with the HR f/end for safety and get a better ride as well. cheers, Leigh
