Rear of the van is typical for a Station Sedan.  Where's the spare wheel?

cheers

Hi Ret,
When you lift the window and drop the door there is a lid under the carpet and a wheel well for the spare. Can i find out more about this van with the id tag numbers? Cheers Clint

It sounds like this beast has a wagon style rear; vans had the spare in the little door between the bumperettes, wagons had them under the floor in the cargo area, under a timber cover.

Can you post the ID plate and chassis number details?

cheers

Hi Guys.
Been watching this with interest. Look at those numbers!
A: It is an Australian import, not delivered new to Kiwiland.
B: It has a few Wagon bits (Rear bumber, spare wheel section)
C: It actually has a wagon ID.
Maybe it is actually a full on Wagon to panelvan coversion? It seems the original owner spent big dollars on the dash, so maybe he went all the way.

Clint, Can we get a few shots of the interior rear? Along where a wagon usually had its rear doors? Maybe have a look from the inside, right where the spare wheel may have door been filled. You will be able to see if it has been modified there.

Rob,

The trailing "A" on the ID says it was Manufactured in Adelaide, as almost all FC wagons were.  (A very tiny number were manufactured in Melbourne in late '59).  You need the Chassis Number to determine the Assembly location.

Clint,

I wondered also whether it might have started life as a wagon, and it appears that it did.  Has it got a back seat?  Can you provide the chassis number?  It should be on the driver's side inner guard, either 8-xxxx-X or FC-xxxx-X.

cheers

Hi RET.
Yes, I know that, but what I meant was this. All the other NZ cars actually had a totally different body number system. Kiwi posted one awhile back & it was just FC #### NZ (or something similar).
Didn't all "Export" cars to NZ have that?

Nice van Clint,

Do like the wagon rear, funnily enoug at one time I thought a van rear on a wagon would be nice.. the grass is always greener  ;)

more driveline info would be nice too.

I do like the dash conversion as well, it fits nicely and looks at home IMO.

Cheers

Ed

Hi guys,
Well this is turning in to a new mission for me, the chassis number is not there ??? i made a few calls today and found out after the rebuild it was registered as a s/w but was told i can re register it as a van?

A couple of scenarios maybe it is another tag.
maybe it was a s/w
Or maybe it was rusted very bad in the rear and they put on a s/w one.
Either way if it was a s/w and now a van i got two cars for the price of one. I found out that this was in the N Z hot rod mag in the late 70's early 80's
so now im trying to find that issue to see what they did. The guy who did the restoration is now living in the states. Ed it has a 308, 3 speed auto, nissan r&p disc front and hr rear i will make this one very nice van/s/w in the next little while it need a new lease on life. Thank you all for your imput i will get to the bottom of this. Regards Clint ps i have got some pics of the rear inside but not that good on posting, any takers?

Still trying to work this one out there is some cutting under the false floor and around the spare wheel well. This weekend i will take off the side panels and look for welds etc to see if ther were doors there.
