Title: Building the nest.. colour me blind!!!
Post by: Ed on December 21, 2004, 12:38:19 AM
Hello,

Progress pics.  the car is now in colour!!

Alfio aligned the panels, fixed up areas of my prep and finished some off and of course applied the colour.  It was great to watch him work and help him where I could, lots of things learnt that will help in the future.

ok the results speak for themselves.. so here are some pics.

after a 5am start, got to Alf's to pick up the car which was based during the week.  I was already happy seeing this.

Alf showed Peter and myself how to help him mask and this was the end result after about 1.5 hours or so.  (actually this is after it was based and the roof was to be hit again but you get the idea).  Its bloody hard ripping a straight line on the masking machine..

After some brekky it was Alf's go to do his stuff.

reaching for the roof...

bending his knees to get those low bits too!

watching him race around the workshop in/out of booth is tiring.... don't forget the booth is about 45 degrees in there!  I bet this guy never goes to the sauna.. he works in one!

based, topcoat then cleared.. this is the result.. OMG it's alive!!!

what a beautiful rear end, smooth as a baby's they say...

what does it look like in the sun??

and again..

now the fun begins for the re-fit..

Cheers

Ed

Ed and Spray-God,

Wow!! :o Love it!

Ed, I know how hard you worked! Some people don't appreciate what goes into making coffee and bringing cold drinks on a project like this. Not to mention all the waiting for others to finish! Bloody exhausting  ;)

But, as your excellent pics show......... its all worth it in the end. How good is that finish straight off the gun!

I'm with Norm, get up.... work to be done.

thx guys,

It has been a long time to get this far, driveline is ready to be re-fitted, so not much longer now.

Very happy with the body & paint.

The driveline should add some more grin factor.

Cheers

Ed

Question?

Bonnet louvres are :

a/ for better airflow through the radiator or
b/ to enable fresh air to get to the carbies or
c/ to enable the underbonnet oily fumes to cover the windscreen or,
d/ to make it hard to clean the bonnet or
e/ just to look good or
f/ to have a better view of the revving engine from the cabin
g/ to attract the chicks.

Earlee.

The nest is now built all you need to do now is fill it with egg's lol.

Car looks great and Alfio has done a fantastic job on your paint. He has a passion for his paint and panel work and strives for perfection and it has definently showed through on your car.

Great Job gents Ed no sleep for you its work work and more work, christmas is upon us and easter is not to far away.

Ed,

Great stuff - I see the front of Alf's "Rosie" peeking into one of those photos - I bet the two of them together will make a great shot.

All that hard work with the prep is paying off now, it must be great to see it finally taking shape and looking like a real car again.

And in response to ACE's comment, yeah!  Here's a blast from this car's ancient past...

cheers

Ed, Alfio & Steve,

You've done almost as good a masking job as that on the spray gun wielder. ;)

The wagon looks better than good.  The finished result will be quite a sight for sore eyes.  8)

Excellent work guys!!!
Is it possible to get a better Christmas present? I think not!  There is Nothing that compares with standing back & looking at your blood-sweat & tears in a fresh shiny coat of paint! Congrats Ed!
(p.s. its nice to know there are painters out there that take pride in their work, I know there's plenty of them out there, but where were they when my car was sanded, bogged, sprayed & pushed back out?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Never mind-live & learn hey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Someone remind Alfio that 2k still enters the body through tear ducts and liquid on your eyes , I have a mate who has an ireversable progressive nerve disease caused by the stuff and he dont look pretty when he hits the deck because his legs disengaged from his brain momentarily.

Thanks Simon hope ur car is back on the road soon,

On the subject of environmental tooxins...

I doubt you could get enough substance into the body thru ur tear ducts and eye surface to have a significant impact on your health.

the easiest and most common way to get material into your body from atmosphere is inhalation thru lungs (large surface area of fine blood capillaries) then absorption thru skin.

eyes dont have much surface area, u'd be more likely to have irritated eyes before you were poisoned.

just for some trivia...  to be classified as "non-toxic" a compound needs to have no effect after being administered at an upper limit level of 2g per kg bodyweight.

which is 150grams of stuff for a 75kg person!!

Cheers

Ed

Is cocaine toxic at that level !
But 2k doesent leave the body ,so being a spray painter and doing this time n time again surely would effect one in the futre.

im not too sure on the accumulation of isocyanates, if they are like heavy metals then they would sit in the body until toxic levels are reached yeah.

easy fix is to close ur eyes and paint!

if u have 2g of coke per kilo. send me a PM right now!

;D

Ed
Harko has a never ending supply of white powder at the moment.
You know being the father of a newborn, he breath it in every time he baths the kids for his wife.
But as we all now Johnson's Baby Power just makes you smell like a baby or and old man.

Cheers Jim
