Title: Fitting new oil seal to dizzy
Post by: Wookie 66 on May 07, 2021, 09:33:03 AM
Good morning

I can’t find any info on fitting a new dizzy oil seal I bough on of the after market ones and the dizzy doesn’t seem want to drop in that last little bit

The seal that came off seemed wider though it was flat and hard as a rock
The new one seems thinner

Any tricks I’m missing ?
Any advice appreciated
Thanks

Grease the seal well, and push down hard on the distributor body.

... and when that doesn't work, spend a few hours checking measurements, turning the oil pump via a screwdriver, turn the engine back and forth one cam tooth repeatedly, try another distributor, retry the old distributor, then get frazzled and call a mate for advice. Have the mate regrease and lean really, really hard on the dizzy body (without busting anything fragile on or under the cap) until it drops in. Thank him.

... don't ask me how I know  :-[ (and thanks again Rob).

Cheers,
Harv

Thanks
I get the idea now was not sure how much pressure to put on before I broke something else that I had to buy a new one

Pss

I don’t have any mates, well my son in law is a mechanic I’ll get him to look at
Though he’s not very good unless it connects to a computer then he’s brilliant.

Cheers
