I think that came about to stop certain A holes pretending to be the original seller and offering a second chance bid to the unsuccessful bidder to now buy the particular item. They would offer some excuse like "the winning bidder could not pay so now do you want it? If so send the money to this account.........." Never to see your cash again. I think once bids hit $200 (or is it $250) the bidders become anonymous. Does not it from happening at cheaper prices though, just that these A holes would have to do it lots more to earn a buck (more like earn a bullet to the head) Regards Michael

Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Accelerator setup when using injected 5 liter

Thanks for that feedback. Must admit I like the look of the cable pull from down below, relatively easy to turn up some pieces and slot them out, nice easy bent bracket and to modify an original pedal. (Which I don't yet have in the box of goodies) When you say it quick it seems so easy! Would be nice if the donor motor cable and tube is longer than needed, if so, could just get the ferrule swaged on at the correct length when it is all sitting in position, still adjustable of course. If not surely there are people who make up cables just like this. Ed, don't yet own a motor, have been price watching for a while now and it seems that for a complete donor motor including wiring loom, computer, alternator, fan etc seems to be $1500. Would be nice if there was someone I knew that just smashed their car. Saw one not long ago that had the above with a tranny with a 2 stage shift kit in it, again for for $1500. Obviously these will need a freshen up as most are at the 200-250 km range, want a 5 cog swapper anyway. Did have an FC with a red motor, discs, 4 speed in it as my first car and don't want to go down that track again, nothing wrong with that though, do really want to bing the drive line up to todays standards injected wise. Yeah can put in V6 but want that bay filling symmetrical clean 8 look. Expensive though, no doubt about that.

Technical Board / Modification Help / Accelerator setup when using injected 5 liter
|

Question to those people out there that have used an injected 5 liter and would like to know what accelerator pedal setup that you went with. I am in the process of doing weld repairs on the floor sections and would be a good time to decide now with what set up to go with. If the standard setup is not used then I can take off the original nuts from the floor and weld up the holes. If you do have a stock or modified setup please sing out. I am at the stage where it is much easier to fill holes and make new ones as the shell is on a rotisserie versus on the ground. Thanks Michael

If no one has one of these available would they know who has a wreck sitting around or even of a wrecker who has a body sitting around.
Don't like the chances of a wrecker so any leads would be helpful. As said earlier am in Melbourne.
Thanks for any help, Michael

Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Tabs in the floor pan

Yeah Ok it seems that they don't actually do anything hold wires etc. I will weld them up, I can only see water getting pushed up from the bottom. Would have thought a drain hole would be round? If some water does get in down the track I will have to deal with it then. Going to POR 15 in and out anyway so not really a problem in regards to the steel floor pan. Thanks

Hello all, While doing repairs to the floor pan I noticed these tabs in the floor pan where the rear passengers would normally be resting their feet. I also see some in the area under the rear seat. What are they used for? If not important they will see the wrath of my oxy flame. Thanks Michael Feet area Seat area

Hello all, Long time coming but finally started on the rebuild, have had this car sitting around for waaay too long doing nothing. First car was an FC with the usual red motor, disc brakes, four on the floor and fatties all round. Nice grey and white combo. Ken should still have the info as I drove it around oh so many years ago. Not long after I sold it I regretted it (seems a standard emotion doesn't it?) Looked around for another one and found this FE. It was purchased as a incomplete restoration, I pretty much trailered it home, pulled it apart a bit more and placed it up on the rotisserie and let it gather dust. Three floor pan sections have been placed in prior to me getting it and unfortunately the repairs were not quite up to scratch. The areas were covered in tar/bitumen and it has taken a bit of work to get the areas clean for re-welding. Just some general pics of where I am at the moment. Shell up on the rotisserie. The solid frame allowed me to pull it up on the trailer with the shell still on it. Rear shot showing the adjustment to enable the shell to spin around on its center of gravity, took and educated guess as to where it would be and made the adjustment slots to suit. Front shot, gear box is normally used to operate large butterfly valves. Stops shell from spinning when you lean on it and rotates 360 degrees. The under side of the floor pan showing the cut out for the large gearbox tunnel to go in. The cross member was cactus so took that out as well. New old stock one to go back in. Gearbox tunnel just sitting in position. Thats it for now, by the way I need a floor pan support on the drivers side, look in wanted parts for the picture. Cheers.

Damn, getting tiresome now. read through what I could find on the forum for uploading pics from photobucket, problem is that they were written back in 2004 and are relevant for the old forum before the recent upgrade. Still thought the process would be the same.
Any help with the pics would be very welcome
Cheers Michael

Hello everyone, Finally the time has come to actually start work on the shell. I am after a floor pan support on the drivers side. Pretty much sits right under the drivers feet/seat area. You don't usually get to see off the car as they make up part of the floor pan itself and are factory spot welded in. If you have ever replaced floor sections then you will have an intimate knowledge of them! If anyone has a loose one kicking around that would be great otherwise a wreck will need to be cut up a bit, I am located in Melbourne's western suburbs and can help to cut out if that suits you. Regards Michael

Hey Michael, Your parents named you well, as this is my name too! Apparently they named all the clever kids by this moniker. (Sorry all non Michael's) Have a look at this paint system for some of the best (if not the best) rust protection around. Don't have a heart attack when you see how much it costs though. http://www.ppc.au.comThey are pretty clear that the instructions on application must be strictly adhered to for proper results. I have not as yet used it, but will be, Other people here have, just do a search on the forum for POR 15 (yes that is correct POR 15) even have a Google look for it, there are many hits. Kind regards Michael

Technical Board / Modification Help / Diff from VN, VR etc
|
on: July 29, 2007, 11:43:59 PM

Hello everyone, Am looking at installing a commodore rear end and was wondering if there are any differences between a diff and housing in a 6 cyl sedan versus a V8 sedan. Obviously the ratios would be different.
Although I don't know definitely it would be a safe bet to say it would be different coming out of a wagon. (shock supports, spring hangers)
Are they the same, or is it like older comms with 6 and 8 diff setups??
Cheers all M

Hello all, Have come across a problem which may or may not be due to the new host. Here goes.
I shot off a personal message to someone on the forum and when they replied I was notified of it in my Email (outlook express) It was all jumbled up and looked like a cross between Chinese and Egyptian Hieroglyphics.
Not really a problem as when I logged onto the forum it was OK in my inbox. Not sure if its an outlook problem or a communication problem with the new host's software.
Have you ever tried to open a Microsoft word document with an older version than it was created with?? If so that is what it looks like.
Anyone else found anything that they may think is a bug?
Regards Michael
