Post by: Wookie66 on November 14, 2021, 09:02:13 AM
Good morning o wise ones

I’ve just noticed that when the engine is running I have 12 volts and when I pull the lights on drops to zero
Is that the generators dead or something else

Engine still runs fine no other issues just drops to zero on the taco turn the lights off jumps back to 12

Cheers

Need more information.  Wisdom is in short supply.

At what point (i.e. physical location) are you measuring the voltage?  When you turn the lights on, does the engine stop?  Does the wiring get hot when you turn the lights on?  Does any magic smoke come out?

I'm guessing that your generator's not dead; but that you have a bad connection between the battery and where you were measuring the voltage.  Or you might have a short-circuit in the headlight wiring.  Or both.

How are the headlights, bright or dim, and do they flare up when you rev the engine?
