Hi,
I know this question is from an EH enthusiast but I thought it might apply to this forum as well.
I am restoring an original EH van and I would like to know where I could obtain the studs that hold in the compliance plate/ or tonnage plate to the firewall.
Thanks........Sean

Sean, as far as I know they are not available new, however they can be removed quite easily from wrecks as follows;
remove all interior parts, trim and sound deadening from the passenger side of the firewall.
From inside, carefully sqeeze the rivet together with a pair of pliers. (until the small gaps close up)
Gently tap the rivet out with a soft hammer blow
(helps to have a helper on the engine bay side as the rivet can fly off into never-never land)
The rivet can be reinstalled by using a pin punch exactly the size of the impression in the front of the rivet.
Once you have pushed the rivet through the plate and into the firewall, insert the punch and gently tap until the back of the rivet flares out again as it was in the donor vehicle.
I have a number of rivets available for sale if needed.

Hi Sean,
I have found eyelets from a shoe repair specialist to be almost the same.
Try and salvage one from an old car and take it one of these guys. As Ken says the trick is fitting it to make it look right, take some time & make a punch to fit. Come around to the shop one Saturday and we’ll have a look.
By the way how is the EH van coming along.
Regards
Dr Terry

Hi Dr Terry
The van is coming along very well. I have ordered new glass for the whole car, including the upper tailgate glass, and pretty soon, I will have an excellent floorpan, with minimal rust & damage, to put in the van.
Fingers crossed, there will be another EH van gracing the streets of Sydney, before the end of the year, and it wont be modified.
See you soon............Sean
