FE & FC Heaters

I guess that most people know that the FC used the Nasco Warmaride heater and the FE used the Nasco Autoheat heater, but did you know thatthe Bosch heater was the GMH accessory heater for 1956 FE's?
Apparently the FE was released with not all the accessories ready for 12 volt supply so the Nasco heater was delayed until 1957. Also the 1956 FE Air Chief radios were 6 Volt as well and were fitted with a rectifier to drop the 12 volt supply down to 6 Volt.
The heater pipes for the FE come straight out from the firewall with the hoses directing under the air cleaner, over the manifold and rocker to the inlet/outlet points on the water pump & thermostat housing.
The FC heaters had a 90 degree bend in the pipes which directed the hoses up the firewall to a clip on the top of the firewall near the wiper motor then down along the LHS of the rocker cover to the same inlet/outlet points. The heater tap was fitted to the thermostat housing.

while your on the topic of heaters ken ,
when was the bullet type black heater
released ?
not the one with the smiths sticker but ,
the one with the silver nasco sticker.
this heater had a dual control panel and
two engine bay ducts with tubeing connected
to both to allow air flow to the heater core .
very effective too !
thanks coolaride .

The only reference I have for this heater is in the "ACCELERATOR" magazine dated July 1959. This would have been when it was released and it would have been available for the rest of the year.
There is quite a good picture showing the Smiths style heater with a NASCO badge on the front.

I too have one of those heaters & was wondering the same thing. I have sent the outlet (Demister) rubbers up to Ed so he can repo them. I have had the Smiths one, but the NASCO one has all the stuff Coolaride has. The only thing I am missing is the ducting, so if anyone has info as to the correct style of ducting, I would love to hear from them.
Regards,
Rob
