Just pop down your local metal merchant and pickup a piece of zinc annealed. Shouldn't be too much trouble to shape up, cut a rough size, make the shape, lay over the hole and trace. Cut the marked section out and weld in your new piece.
If you can, watch the Junkyard Dog 2 episode of American Hot Rod. There is a bloke doing the exact same repair on a '56 Chev, although the hole is much bigger. If you can't get hold of the episode, give us a yell and I'll burn off a DVD for you.

It's on Foxtel, I missed the first ep but managed to record the 2nd, the third is on tonight.
It's a "hot-rod" take on the American Chopper reality theme, following life at Boyd Coddington's rod shop.
PM me you address and I'll send you a DVD.
The actual tech part I am refering to is only 1-2 mins tops, but you see enough to know what to do.

g'day, work got rained out today so i was back at it again,what a headache this was to do. dam thing took 7hr's and 9vb's to get like this,the hardest bit was getting the masinite out from between the skin & the skeleton and i still have the other side to do too yet anyway  ,    cheer's col. |

hey Col,
How'd the wire wheel go on your panels?
The rush is on down at the shop, they're in the middle of replacing the driver's side sill and want me to come down and clean up the floor with the wire wheel... thought I might attack some panels while I'm there!

SRVLIVES, they seem fine as long as you don't let the panel get to hot.on the outside skin i used a linsish disc then the wire wheel to get the rid of any left over's and hand sanded them to smooth it all up like NEW again. cheer's col. |

hey Col, Thanks for the reply. Went down to the shop this morning and cleaned up the floor with the wire brush, pretty clean. Driver's side front floorpan needs replacing (I already have a new one to go in) rear needs no repairs at all. Sill has been taken off, there is a small amount of rust at the bottom of the A pillar, but the inner sills are bewdiful!  Used the wire brush in the drill to attack the front of the bonnet where the letters were, more out of curiosity than anything else, had almost no effect at all!... The paint on this thing must be 3mm thick! Time for Plan B...... |

SRV if you wanna see the paint come off in a hurry, get a cup brush for your angle grinder  . Start slowly though. |
