It's just rationalisation of government departments. If it results in any job cuts I'll be surprised, frankly. These amalgamations are done with the best of intentions - looking for 'synergies' to reduce costs, duplication of effort etc. That side of it rarely results in very much: there might be some voluntary redundancies offered, for example.

Having said that, given the similarities: both vehicles and vessels must be registered, as must both vehicle drivers and vessel operators, it makes good sense to rationalise the permit systems. And the RTA system is far more advanced.

Just my 2c.

cheers

My mate had the same thing happen to him he was about to pick up his plates when the RTA girl said it was on the bottom of his RTA paper work DO NOT REGISTER  Huh So he and his engineer have been at it with the RTA for over 6 months about registering his T roadster.. the head RTA inspector and two other RTA [Water Ways Cheesy Cheesy] inspectors and the engineer are all going to inspect the T on the 5th Dec and make a decision think they are using it as a test case .....FC427.....

I've been helping a guy with a Harley with after market frame, the engineer we were going to use, doesn't think he wants to part of it anymore (all recognised engineering signature had to reapply) he said he knew a lot of things that he has previously past have been called back for RTA inspection, they're making it hard for us again.

It's meant to be a free country, isn't that the idea, but don't own a gun, don't modify your car, don't fish without a license, don't go in a national park. We need to get organised and lobby these pollies, it has worked for plenty of other minorities greens gays etc. perhaps we could get other groups on board if we helped with there causes.  The 4w drivers  a had win against the pedestrian council with their bull bars because they got organised.

Most of us have other interests, maybe we should start raising these issues with other clubs and get a bit organised.

Ive slowed up on my build wondering which way to go (modified or grey) .But have been told new system should be ready by chrismas. with alist of new signataries.(which could be bigger).I hope what ive been told is true as it could make the system better.
