Hey Devil what price we looking at?

Title: Re: what else would you put behind your FE FC
Post by: red_devil on January 20, 2014, 11:14:11 AM
Would be $150 delivered or close to. This is a very expensive rig to build especially in small numbers.
Most trucks are built 1/50th scale so they do not suit the cars that sit on them 1/43rd is very expensive to build  but this would be a great period correct display item carrying four FE FC's.
John

It would be a fantastic platform to display models on. Period correct with good photo evidence. Going to have to work harder to afford all the great stuff that your producing but the satisfaction of looking at the models in my collection is well worth it.
Keep up the good work John & Ron  :)

I recall one these used by my father on his sawmill for carting logs & cut timber. It inspired me to do some searching and although I found little detail on the trucks really, I did find this interesting article on Neil Scott (the name is on the door). There's no mention of transporting Holdens but it's a typical description of so many hard working people around the country at that time, most of who were only well known by the locals. I'm guessing that Stewy spent some time in the area & probably knows some tales about the Holden dealer.

Sorry Dave, lived all my life in Adelaide. Picked this up off facebook but will try to find the link with the info on it.
Just thought it was so interesting the way the country dealers would have got their stock from the factory back in the late 50s. I was born in 63 so only really noticed cars going from the Elizabeth factory in the late 70s.

Stewy, I did a bit of hunting and came up with the site that Dave posted, there was also a similar site for his son Wayne. Maybe worth a bit of a look. It would be great if there was a bit more information uncovered about the day to day goings on of the company, would make for a great plaque for the model.

Should not be to bad John, you already have a great scaled sedan and wagon. The trailer is only about a 3 1/2 foot longer than the two cars together. Should be able to gauge the height off the ute models.

John, maybe worth looking for a work shop manual, it should have what you need or talk to a Ford dealer they may have or could put you on the right path for what you need.
Jim ps are you getting it done as per the photos ie: paint and markings.

So it did. I read one on his son also on the same site. Got a bit late last night too & I mixed the articles.
I agree, the family would most likely love it. I'd be happy to contribute. Perhaps John needs check with them first anyway if the model is to have the same sign writing - no idea about the legalities there. With 3 sons, chances are some immediate family are still listed in the phone book.

Guys we have a difference of opinion form my Ford mate (sorry to use that four letter word starting with F) but good old Ray is adamant the truck is as follows

No, I think it is the F500/F600 for sure. The F350 was too light duty to be a Car Transporter/ Semi.

Not sure if we have any F nuts but what is the consensus here, buy the way the feedback and assistance is sensational thanks to all.

It must make it all worth while when you get the ok from the family. To think that this all started with a picture posted on a thread is even better and now to be able to track down the family and talk to them about your plans must be a thrill. I honestly believe that this model will take pride of place on their mantle. It also shows the wealth of knowledge within this forum, a great result by all involved.
Do you have any idea on how long it will take to have them made? Also put me on the list when they are in.
Thanks again for your efforts, Jim

Hi Jim, yes agree doing this to give the family a great keep sake of their fathers great achievement is  where we get the most pleasure.
This forum is filled with knowledge and the most generous people sharing time and information.
I have been around car clubs for forty years and you guys are the cream of the crop.
It is a privilege to be associated with this club and something I never take for granted.
Thanks so much and your name is on one for sure. It will take six months to build the truck and it will carry all the signage that was on the original.

Did you ask about additional photos of the truck, or perhaps larger photos of the ones on the forum. Would help the model maker to get the signage as accurate as possible.

Adding to photos of freighting  FE and FCs.
This photo came into my possession when i attended the funeral of the owner of ERF Transport, Ted Fullgrabe, who is the driver in the photo.
He transported between Adelaide and Melbourne.
As you can see predigital photography wasn't always the best.
Enjoy!

John, I have done some more digging and found this on flicker. It is a photo of a 1956 F600 restored by the Gibbs family of Wagga Wagga, it may be worth a call to see if you can get some info on the specifications of the truck to help you out with the model.
http://www.flicker.com/photos/aussiefordadverts/12848296104/
I punched in 1956 F600 and scrolled down and found it. I think if you tell them what you are doing, then they may be willing to help.

Yes the story and passion behind these vehicles is why we build. My grand love of anything with wheels drives me.
I get great pleasure thinking about how many people benefit from building these memories and keep sakes.
I hope our cars give people pleasure and one day when some youngster inherits them they will think of good times they shared with that person by looking at the cars.
Just the interaction from guys on this forum inspires me and motivates me to get the job done.
John

Can I suggest the unique story behind the transporters be included with each model.
Many of us here are mature enough to feel the connection, but perhaps a summary on the box or on a card inside would inspire the youngsters to ask us more about our experiences. A lot of our heritage centred around these road transporters.
