Replacing cork Rocker Cover and Sideplate Gaskets ... What are people using when installing new gaskets ? ... Grease, sealant or nothing ?

I’ve read a few threads about this topic and most people tend to think that sealant on the sheet metal side and nothing on the engine side is the best way.
Sealant holds the gasket firmly in place while positioning and prevents unwanted movement of the gasket, especially the rocker cover.
Grease is no good as it tends to let the gasket slide as you are tightening the bolts
Don’t put sealant on both sides as this makes it difficult to remove the item, you often need to remove the rocker cover.

As above, adhering the gasket to the cover not only facilitates correct alignment but also enables it to be removed and refitted several times without replacing.

I can also confirm , I recently used rubberised cork gasket for sideplate and rocker , clean any trace of oil or paint any thing off the side plate and rocker surface where the gasket sits , use silicone sealer to adhere the gasket to the surface of the tin ware , on the rocker I put a couple of long thin strips of wood along the gasket and a few bull dog clips and left for couple days before fit ..DONT PUT sealant between gasket and cylinder head. I did however put sealant both sides of sideplate gasket ..DONT OVER TIGHTEN ...Vern ..
