I remember the "Taxi Rail" very well. Many a young lass lost her front teeth on these while sitting on the boyfriends lap,[no seatbelts], & lurching forward during heavy braking, [or worst still suffering a crash]. Mona Vale Hospital on a Sat. night treated many of these poor unfortunates. The rule was, when driving,  never let children stand behind the front seat while holding the rail. These rails served their purpose in Taxis, assisting passengers getting into & out of the rear seat.  Just Saying.. Kevin.

I have one fitted in a FJ special.  It’s purpose is to stop rear passengers from pulling on the top of the front seat when they exit. AL.
