Hello All,

After many months nearly years I am ready to do the wiring and would like it to be hidden. I have heard of putting the headlight wiring under the gaurds which seams like a good idea as long as it is secure and protected.

First question is where to drill the hole to go back into the cabin from under the wheel arch.

Second is what fuse boxes have been used and where to locate with relays?

In our van we
* fed the wiring through a hole under the A pillar (under the right had front guard)
* the loom under the guard is encased in split loom and attached to tabs I welded high up on mudguard side of the inner guard.
* the right hand headlight/park light/indicator is separated into another split loom and terminated near the headlight
* left hand stuff and fans continues in the loom down the outside of inner guard
* a hole is drilled at the bottom of both inner guards (in front of the radiator) for the loom to be put though to the fan and horns and through to the left hand side lights.

You need.
* a step drill
* grommets for the holes to protect the wiring
* split loom to protect the wires
* tabs to tie the loom to
* a bit of time.

interesting...

I am think of putting a vp/vn/vs fuse/relay unit where the original fuse panel is as there are plenty of fuses and relays.
Not sure of where you are putting the hole. Is it just above the A piller so next to the accel pedal. I was wondering if people have put the hole at the top above the door hinge?

Hi Mate do yourself a  favour and buy an aftermarket  wiring harness/ fuse panel chopping up an old fuse panel just takes so much time and effort extending wires ect.
A good aftermarket wiring kit is pretty cheap and makes life a lot easier.
I drilled my holes up high nearlly at the top of the guards and i had M6 bolts welded along and clipped the harness to it with P clips..

yeah I hear you about the spagetti mess. You would not have a pic of were you drilled the hole? I see there are two pressed indents above the top of the door hinge on the side is this where you went?

I've been trying a few things myself (a little hard as I haven't completely removed the engine) but will take some pics tomorrow so you can see how I've gone about it.

Had a quick look my harness runs out next to the bonnet cable thru the firewall behind the dash guages ect..

Hope your not having a go there mate.
It's completely different from my grey engine.......Plus a shitload more wires. A grey engine wire harness would be a dam site easier to hide than that of a VT

Apologies NES didn't mean it to come out like that bad hair day at the office (and I don't have any hair) shouldn't have posted anything yesterday it was that bad.

You are right about the amount of wiring for different engines of course but I thought the question was mainly referring to headlight wiring?

Sorry for the delay. The bank has made me work...
I have started making my own loom. Runs under the top lip of each guard to just behind the dash and glovebox. Running the high beam just alittle up and then under the hand brake cable. Currently running holden 8 and then injected. Will run injection wire on the side of the gbox. Replacing the fuse tray with commode due and relay from vp.
