Not at the moment. Work has been hectic & weekends have focused on revamping the garden & spending a lot of time over bubbling pots - you got a problem with that Jack?  Wink mid October should see a return to ' normality'

Forgot to ask Toorat, do you still have your van?
64  General / General Board / Re: Dynamat Vs ???? on: September 13, 2012, 02:06:06 PM
we've used Dynamat in the rear of the van (roof and side panels) and it dropped the noise levels considerably.  It will be even quieter whenif we ever get around to getting a full roof lining and the sides upholstered.  At the moment - we've used a paintbrush to paint it black so you don't really see it.  Can highly recommend the difference that it makes.

no problems at Stewy and thanks Jamie

I must that when I changed to this look some 14 years ago, IMHO, it made all the difference with my car - I loved my car before but when these went on I was absolutely stoked..........

Whatever you decide to do Jamie I know you will think your sh!t doesn't stink every time you look at it and your face will hurt as much as mine does from grinning non-stop

you too will come to love overcast or wet days and dusk - cos that's when they really look good!

aaaah black cars gotta love 'em and gotta love cleaning 'em.............constantly!  Grin

congratulations Jamie - you should be very proud of your hard work.

I'm sure the smile is pretty hard to keep from your face at the moment.

See you on the road someday.  Smiley

I think I've found your problem with it not fitting easily - did you remove this before you popped it in there?

Don't give up so quickly - modifying vehicles is not a quick build by numbers exercise.  Smiley

Hi Stash

I attempted to get something like that up and running a little while ago but you will see from the thread that it pretty much fizzled out. Maybe it might be different this time.   Smiley

The FE/FC indicator has two sets of wires.  One set works the front indicators and idiot lights.  The second set are wired through your brake lights so the brake lights flash as indicators.  Sounds weird but you just have to follow an FE wiring loom or most GM US looms which use the same system.

The FB/EK setup omits the second set of wires and so you can only have separate orange indicators at the rear.

I used a hotrod wiring loom which I could use either system.

The reversing lights have nothing to do with indicator and are controlled by the neutral switch safety switch.  I must admit having reversing lights make it easier when backing the van at night.

The extra wires in the indicator on FEs and I understands early FCs (they are late model cars) is for red flashing indicators. I replaced the EK the black bits with an FE setup from ebay (the Van had EK an column when purchased) set up.  Yes you have to be careful little ball bearings dont go flying.  If you want the more usual separate orange indicators just use the EK wiring.  I like the original FE indicators and they are still legal.

For all those that would like have a T700 operated through an FE/FC/FB/EK column with the original look and steering wheel to satisfy yourself or wife here it is mocked in my vice ready for Kathi's FE

http://fefcholden.org.au/forum/index.php/topic,13040.340.html.

Earlier in this thread about page 11 you can see the one for our FE Van.  This is done a bit differently as it was my first try.  The Van has done 30k with this setup, works brilliantly and to most onlookers looks like a stocky three on the tree.   It has:

* a proper gate so it the gears are operated safely
* the PRNDL has been modded for a 4 speed auto
* it has a neutral safely switch with reversing lights

We just drove back from the Riverland this afternoon.  Its so easy to drive and the engine barely ticks over with the overdrive.

Stash three holes need to be drilled in the FE/FE spacer if you dont want to use the EK one.  Two holes for the screws for EK chromey thingy and one hole for globe.  You could make this set up without using any EK parts except the chromey thingy.

The thread shows the gate i filed.  The adapter to the column for the cable and the bracketry down the side of the trans.  The van uses a 57 Chev gear lever and EK auto honey pot.  Kathi's is using her standard gear lever and modded honey pot as we want an even more restored look (heeheehee).

Hope someone reads this.  It has been done, it works  and it looks period.

regards

John

We bought early Chev ones from Mutton Hollow.  Have been dealing with MH for quite a while now for those "rare" FE parts!  Wink Cheesy

Absolutely no different to FE arm rests - bolted straight up.

and for what it's worth.... my FE also had a red horn button with a gold shield and lion!  Smiley

Sorry to hi-jack your thread Steve - hope you're still enjoying your car.

I'm sorry Ken, there may not be any documentation but I know what was on my car from the factory. When my original tail lights were removed both John and I inspected them carefully and there was no evidence to suggest they had faded from red. I have not bothered to enter into discussions about orange brake light lenses before because, in all honesty, it's just not worth it..... I know my car and John knows my car - no-one else does. I'll leave it at that and hope you all have a nice day.  Smiley

re the orange tail light lenses..... my November 1956 FE (Adelaide build) had orange tail light lenses.  They were definitely not faded and, given my car's history, I know they had never been replaced. They were replaced with red ones when I changed to wide whites and red rims as they better suited the overall look of my car.  Smiley
