I am presently pulling engine down for a warmish rebuild and when removing the flywheel (to mount engine on stand) found that there were no flywheel attaching bolt locking tabs ...  I recall reading somewhere on here that from 1958 onwards GMH didn't fit bolt locking tabs ...

This leads me to suspect that the engine (or perhaps just the flywheel) is post 1958 Huh

The engine number is L622030 ... sorry Ken , forgot to give this when I posted the other codes .

Any info appreciated gents ... Dave .

If you are trying to identify if the grey engine fitted to your Holden is original, the following engine number sequences may help:

48-215 numbers started at 1001
FJ numbers at 121694
FE numbers at L283373
FC numbers at L439507
FB numbers at B1001
EK numbers at B175814
EJ numbers at J1001

Mine was OCT58 and L50xxxxx so I'd guess yours late 59?

Hi Dave,
Referencing Ken's list
October 1959    L615000

November 1959   L634000

So it is safe to say that your motor was installed in October 1959
