leaking rocker cover

Hi,

It turns out my chrome redline rocker cover is leaking a little on my red 6.  This is causing a little smoke as some oil drips down onto the exhaust manifold.

I was warned that these type of rocker covers leak - is there an easy fix?

I think problem is combination of the chrome studs having too long a threaded shaft and not tightening quite enough and part poor rocker cover design.

I need to stop it for rd worthy tomorrow - how about using two rocker gaskets - one on top of the other?

normally  on the bottom of the rocker cover where it meets the gasket isnt slat, it will have a raised part, sometimes this surfave needs to be slightly round down using a grinder-this should fix the problem. if not 2 gaskets might do it good!

What about a neoprene gasket? I bought two off an online ebay shop. Reusable rubber gasket with a steel core to hold it's shape and it doesn't seem to compress as much as the cork items.
Can't vouch for it's effectiveness though as I haven't run the motor yet.

Why not cut the threaded studs so that they don't bottom out

I'm with Ace.

Make sure the cover is actually seating before you go further. Once its sitting down on the gasket with some mild tension remove the cover, coat the gasket with some grease on both sides and re-install, tightening down until the gasket just compresses. It won't leak and you'll be able to take it off and on a few times before you need to replace it.
