Martin's Engine Recon

I pulled the engine & gearbox out of Jim, reconed the engine & fitted a recon gearbox I got hold of.  I also splashed a bit of paint around the engine bay.

Engine bay when I bought the car:

Found these markings under the first layer of paint on the fire walll, inder the ID plate



Car is Skyline Blue with Fountain Blue flash.

Reference previous posts about chalk marks.

I went to a Dulux depot near me  in Adelaide's southern suburbs to enquire about grey engine paint.  They told me the company had sold it's engine paint division to a SA Holden Dealer - Hamilton Holden.

I asked Hamiltons and they made me up a pot to the Holden grey recipe.

The label on the can says:
ICI Autocolour
Spraying enamel (so it's probably not hight temp engine paint, but it appears to stick)
348 Spray enamel     Col ref:ACR1 (10367)
GM (Holden)
Grey
and then some info about the lead  content.

It looks like the real thing to me.

Thanks for the encouragement, guys.

This is an interim repaint until I strip the car in a couple of years (when I retire), so it ain't
perfect, but it's a vast improvement.

Somebody said he'll see it at Jindabyne -well, one week tomorrow and I leave for my first Nats.  Can't wait.

The elctric wiper motor was one of the first things I did with the car.  Have also added grill badge, front mudflaps (rears are coming), bonnet bird, heater (not finished yet), reversing lights. Have door grab handles, spats & sun visor in the box to be fitted.  Would love to get my hands on a radio, even if it doesn't work - just so long as it looks good.

Although I have the spats & the visor, they are long term - to be painted & fitted when the car gets its full respray.
