VR Auto wont shift past 2nd

does any one know why a VR electronic four speed wont shift up past second, It kicked down on the freeway yesterday under acceleration and wouldn't shift up again meaning I had to drive there and back in 2nd, gee late model crap is frusterating.

I would suspect a sticky valve in the transmissions valve body.

It could be a faulty solenoid, being that they are fully electronic, i have also heard of them having problems with the memcal, holden have a memcal out that fixes certain faults, like locking in limp mode etc...
