Do FE engines use hex-head bolts or studs for inlet and exhaust manifolds to head?

My 1957 master parts catalogue suggests two studs, two brass nuts, two 3/8"-16 x 1-1/8" bolts, two washers, and four 3/8"-16 x 1-3/8" bolts.  I think the change from studs to bolts happened sometime during FJ production.
