Overwhelmed with the choice of heater taps out there so I'll ask for advice on recent setup successes.
Wanting a quality tap to avoid those leaks that I recall became a pain in the arse whenever the season changed.
Are the modern versions able to cope any better with just a couple of turns a year without leaking?

DJ,

I've been using the “Universal 5/8'' or 16mm Cable Operated Heater Tap” (part number HA4008) from Speedy Air Spares (41 Beatrice Street Bundaberg QLD 4670, Phone (07) 4152 7693, E-mail jeremy@speedyairspares.com.au, http://speedyairspares.com.au).

The tap can be fitted either in the engine bay or under the dash and requires a bowden cable to operate. You could also operate by hand. Quite a few years of hard service now and no leaks. Still smooth to operate/

Would also recommend Speedy Air Spares - damn good to deal with and happy to mail stuff to you.

Cheers,
Harv

I used a standard ball valve in the van... Been in it over 13 years and never leaked. I put it under the drivers seat and turned it on when it got cold.

Thanks Harv. Have seen these advertised & liked the idea of cable so the tap can remain outside the cab. Good to hear they are trouble free.
On special too.

Thanks JB. 13 years is brilliant compared to what I recall in the 60s.

I used an in line brass one on one of the heater hoses.  It is from I think a HT or HG.  It is up near and parallel to the firewall and operated with a choke type cable.  Works really well and hardly noticeable.  This one was found in evil bay.  Just needed to do a 5 minute service by putting two O ring in it.

DJ
I was going to post the stainless version but i have come up with a much better cleaner version which is a gate valve not ball type.
Its brass as well and a lot cleaner looking.
Please note top will be re cut and a lot cleaner eg only as the tab hole ect will be removed and it will be polished.
Top secret tap as well found them out of the blue.
