Ok all

We tried the paint code for fountain blue with Debeers and its a no go royal marine worked but isnt what im after.

By a long shot does someone have a touchup tin or a piece of car glove box or surround in fountain blue ?

Does someone have the owner from SA details to ask if his panel shop has the mixing numbers  ..

Hi Pete,

Here's the original nitrocellulose lacquer formula. Borderline useless for paint mixing, but it might help your paint supplier locate it.

cheers

G'day Pete,

Eastern auto paints in Bayswater, Vic did the colours for mine (ascot grey / wangarra grey).  They might be worth a call to see if they can help you out as they do all the original fe fc colors in 2pac.

The paint chips in the old BALM paint books darken with age, they're not a good representation of the actual colour.

I know the Techical Department of Dulux-PPG have these formulae converted to Acrylic tinters, and those have been subsequently converted to two-pack colours. Presumably other paint manufacturers can do the the same.

If Ken says the car you're talking about is Fountain Blue, I'd run with that Smiley

cheers

Pete

Pete, yes either would be good.
I went through this trying to match an original green & then many years later trying to match the 'new' paint.
In theory both should have been an identical code but advice to me was that a paint formula wasn't really the answer. There are too many variants that influence the final shade, including the range of thinners that could be used.
If you have no joy locally or in Melbourne, another option could be Allard Paints Distributors in Canberra (02 6239 1377). Ideally, a reference to start with would be easier & quicker - e.g. something reasonably flat to scan (like the glovebox lid example) or any sample swatch.
I had some good wheels which were used as a sample. These couldn't be scanned because of the curved shape but the result using their swatch system was great.
Even without a reference I think they would find the right colour.
Happy to deal at the counter on your behalf if it helps. Dave.
