Interesting attitude to those who collect ID information. In my opinion the collection of this information has helped significantly in the understanding of how many of each type of vehicle were made, what colours and combinations were available, what dates the colours changed, what interiors went with what exterior schemes and very importantly - an accurate dating method for any vehicle regardless of whether it has the original engine or not.
Having said that, I would never collect information off a car if the owner did not wish me to.
In my opinion the paranoia about not collecting ID numbers is unfounded as there is no use that can be made of the numbers by themselves for any underhanded purpose.
Funnily enough this seller knows so little about the ID plate on his own car that he has blanked out the 2106 on the first line which tells us it is a ute, and left the 26 A which is the body number.
Then for some reason he has crossed out the paint colour 5296 which is army green. Since it is an army vehicle indicated by the S1 codes then it must have army coloured paint.

The opening apology indicates a few others may have been dicked around too.
Ken, I thought the plate below was interesting. Were they a standard fit to these vehicles when they were modified & painted, or does it represent other 'repairs'.

Yes this plate is a military issue, but only after some damage occurred. This ute was damaged somehow when it had only done 40 miles. Pity the poor company clerk who did that!!!!
The military vehicles were not modified so to speak, they were built that way from the factory. Hence the coding on the ID plate. Other vehicles such as 3 door vans and wagonettes were modified by body builders after they left the factory, hence no code difference on the compliance plate.
My army staff sedan had no plate like this attached which means that is was not repaired at any time in the army workshop. My ID plate reads FC-217-283M S1-767 253-5296

Thanks Ken,
It's interesting. 40 miles ... makes you wonder if even got outside the compound before the incident. As you say, the company clerk? Maybe an off loading mishap.
(you be careful sharing your ID plate)
