Hi All,

Picked up this FC Special Sedan yesterday from Albury NSW, 2.5 hour drive away and towed it home on a car trailer, got it for a great price and it wasn't listed for sale very long as i rang the guy and he removed it from sale, doubt many people would have seen the listing for this one.

Just wondering if anyone here has ever seen this Special before! Looking for history on it or if any previous owner was a member here, it looks to be full restoration but it would have been some years ago, very happy with the purchase, it will sit beside the FJ Ute once the garage is up.

Cheers, Jack

Hmmm ok thanks, the old fella i got it off had bought it from a young bloke about 4 years ago, it has sat in the old blokes driveway since, i don't know where the young bloke bought it from though, could be interstate i'm guessing, just checked id info, original colour was ivory/black and the engine number is not FC, would like to know what this engine came out of, hopefully someone on here might know this vehicle and it's history.

A quesion for anyone reading this, i didn't get any old rego papers with this car, if you look at the old rego sticker in the pic it says the Special is a 58, but when i checked the ID history it said it was assembled in 59, is this usual practice for back then with Fc's?

Jack

Quick look says its a 59 as it has the rear fin extensions up to the rear door gaps.

Another thing to check is the ARMOURPLATE etching on the glass.

If there is a full stop above the ninth letter from the beginning of the word it is a 59 model. If it is above the eighth letter it will be a 58 model.

Please note it needs to be the original glass for this to be accurate Grin Grin

I guess if the majority are similar then it would be original.

Regards

Thanks Craig & Peter,

I will check the glass tomorrow, got me stuffed though why it would have been rego'd as a 58!
Unless things have been changed on it and it now looks like a 59!, anyway i will check the glass, it seems to have newish windscreen and rear window rubbers, same with the door rubbers look fairly newish except the drivers door one is worn with use i guess, thanks again guys.

Cheers, Jack

I worked at a joinery shop in Thomas Mitchell dr in wodonga for about 8 yrs this car lived at the house over the road, always wanted to ask the bloke if he would get rid of it but never got around to it. It has been a few yrs since I seen it. I think the bloke that owned it updated to an ej.

Hey fasteddy,

Yeah i reckon it's originally from Vic as the rego sticker is Vic, funny thing was when i picked it up i had the missus and kids with me and had to stop at macca's on the way out of Albury, while my missus and daughter went in i waited in the car.

Straight away a guy walked up to the car and proceeded to tell me his mate used to own the car but he had a bike accident and changed over to a newer car, that's when the old bloke must have bought it i'm guessing.

I got a feeling the young fella would have bought this car from the person you are talking about on Thomas Mitchell dr, i did get the macca's guy's number so i will call him for more info, besides that he is into old holdens too, mainly hr's though!

Just wanted to check things out on here anyway to see if anyone knew anything about it, small world hey  Shocked

Hi 59 special,  The engine has at some stage probably replaced with a new motor with no number as that number is a N.S.W. police number: N =N.S.W.   P = police, hope that helps.   Roy

Have a look at the screw holes that hold the gearbox inspection cover in place. Ken can confirm this but I'm pretty sure that the early FC's had self tappers while the later models had set screws. (proper threads). It wouldn't be hard to turn an early into a 59. Yep, that engine is a NSW police restamp.

Your VIN (Chasis No) is some 2000 after my FC Sedan and mine is classified as a 1959.

Ken McLean should be able to provide more info when he has time.

Hi All,

Yeah checked the glass, drivers side vent has a . above the eighth letter! all the other door glass has a . above the sixth letter ! But as everyone is saying it has got to be a 59, guessing the glass has all been changed with most of it being from an FE, still got to check the gearbox inspection cover though, but doubting it's gunna be the original anyway, thanks to everyone for all the help  Smiley

With a Police engine number, it would be no surprise that it has had windows replaced.  Possibly been in an accident (or stolen) at some stage?  There is a back story to all our cars, much of which will never been known in many cases.

Enjoy your car - she's a beauty (as the man says).

Windlace looks to be FE or repro as well ?

Hard to make sense of what some people did to their cars some times.

But now you have a chance to put your stamp of what you like.

Every change tells a story of these great pieces of history.

Enjoy the stories the FC is telling you.

Wouldn't know what the bloody hell mine was originally. Although my father out law tells me it's not an fc rather a VT SS that looks like a 59 FC Special with FE seats.
