Hi All,

Finally got some carby restrictors that were recommended for my twin strombergs (Holly 350 7448 P/N14-35).

Has anyone put these in and where about did you locate them. From what I have read over at FB Ek you may need the file the end of the gaps like piston rings. The ones I have got don't seem big enough. I am missing something - where do they go and how are they secured?

Rod, isn't that part # you quoted for a holley 350 2 barrel?

 I've got restrictors in my triples and they are a snug fit with no mods required. They go right down in the throat of the carby. You need to remove the top off the carby from memory. If they aren't big enough I'd say your carbies are off a later model with bigger throats. I've used standard grey carbies.

Thanks Colin,

I was only going by what others had been saying and you are correct they are for a hollry. I have seen where I went wrong. Firstly I tried the air horn (far to big) then the throttle body. Once I took the air horn off I was able to see where they go. I then took the throttle body off and I knew exactly where they go.

My question is how did you hold them in place and did you push them upwards from the bottom of the main body. Seems that it can't be done from the top. the flange / lip on the top of the restrictor seems problematic but I don't want to take it off.

Any other thoughts before I have a crack at it.

It's been a long time, they go in from the top in the middle section of the carby. They just push into place. I can't remember doing anything special to get them into place.

 I agree with newman, using standard carbies you may not need them. Is the motor stock or a hottie?

Thanks for the replies.

I am only going on what I have found in researching the topic here and over at the FB EK forum. If I could log on at that site I would post the same questions there as well but for some reason the site wont allow me to do so. Correct me if I am wrong, but what I have found is that they assist low down performance and helps with a flat spot on acceleration which mine do.

The motor has had some mild head work and I plan on put on a set of extractors on the near future. I think I would struggle in fitting them from the top as I don't think I could get them around the "thing" in the middle of the venturi.

Once again thanks. I will give it a go and see how I go.

Why don't you wait until the extractors go on? I'm sure once they are fitted the motor will breathe easier and retune the twins the flat spot problem will be resolved Wink

Thanks Harv for doing that. What you have described is what I have come up with. I am willing to give it a go but want to be sure that I am placing them in right. What is the worse thing that can happen if they don't work - remove them.

Interesting reading. My triples have been on the car since the last Sydney Nationals. Whenever that was. I thought I had them jetted all the same at the time. Without the restrictors I had a huge flat spot at low revs. Forever keeping the revs up just to get going. When I fitted the restrictors, which are for a grey, not the Holley ones, the difference was huge. I rejetted the carbies, making sure they are all the same size, my flat spot all but disappeared. I can now adjust the idle mixture properly as well.

I can't remember what size jets I have. I would need a bit of a shove to pull a carby down to get the sizes. I do know I used the smallest idle jets I could find. They are from the 48 series. (FX)

My car goes well, Loves a spurt above 70 mph, gets better fuel economy than the stockers when on a run. I think I've even tuned them once or twice.

BTW, there used to be a guy in Melbourne who made these. I believe he is involved with the FX-FJ club down there.
