The knob on the end of the gearstick in a FE/FC Is Black but the piece at the very end, does it come in varying colours or just Silver. Does anybody have a different colour , other than silver? May seem like a silly question , but curiousity has gotten the better of me. Huh

Hi Slim, I have seen a few over the years with a similar shape, but a rounded end, no silver disc.

Yes it will come as news to me if there is more than one type.  I'll check the parts book bible tonight.

There's certainly no confusing a 48/FJ one or a EJ/EH one.  Was there a different knob on automatic EKs perhaps?  I dunno.  Never look at them that closely.

cheers

I've got a N.O.S. one part number 7409766 with a silver end and have never seen any different colour ends (only missing ones when the sun distorts the plastic) also only one p/n in parts manual.

RET  FJ Special had a different gear knob to 48-FJ Standard and EK hydramatic gear knob was different to FB-EK manual.

Sorry Craig, only black knobs with a stainless steel insert were available.  These were a problem with FE's and FC's right from the start and it would not surprise that an enterprising person may come up with a replacement end such as the white one in Craig's car,  I have even seen one with a Shilling piece in the end !

 Cry

And I've always wanted a proper black knob as well........

Looks like someone has changed mine. Maybe as Ken says they have just stuck the white end onto the original knob.

I've just purchased a really good black with silver cap one from Slim's FE FC Hospital so that should bring me back in line.

Cheers,

Craig.
