G'day,

Does anyone know how to get paint off chrome? Some previous dud owner had tried to put blackouts on some of my chrome work...

Will paint stripper wreck the chrome...or do i just rub hard with some kero...or is there a better way?

Thanks
Dave

Gday Dave,
I'm not trying to hijack your post, but while some smart cookie is answering your question, maybe they can also tell us the opposite-
that is 'how do you prep chrome for painting'?  I want to do the 'Holden' script on the front guards on my FC wagon (i know they are off an FE!) and also touch up the red & black on the hubcaps.
Huh

 :)G Day Dave.
Sorry to hear about the bad paint job.
To remove it from chrome, well is it water base or oil base.
With water base I would use a rag with soapy water and rub hard.
Oil base i'm not so sure although good old kero on a rag and again rub hard should remove it.
As for paint striper I cant see it doing any harm but please dont hold me to that.
Dont use steel wool or this will be you Cry

 :)G Day Dave.
Can't help you with the hud caps but with the chrome I heard or read somewhere that if you use a 1200 wet paper and water of course or you need to do is take off the shine so it becomes dull and treat it as bare metal peperation with 80% etch primer at 20% thinners at that ratio then you can spray  the colour coat.
Or a 50/ 50 and you can use a undercoat then colour coat.
I hope I'm correct. (WHERES  ALF). :-/
