I'm replacing the rubbers surrounding the front quarter windows with Rares' replacements. Simple job, it seems.

The original "weather strip" is a flat metal strip with the rubber seal stuck to it.  It's "staked" into the "division channel" that holds the glass run channel (according to the workshop manual (page 35 - body section 1-19).

The Rares' weather strip does not have the metal piece on it.

Can I simply glue the new rubber weather strip to the division channel, or should I glue the rubber to the old metal strip and try to set it back into the division channel?    The first option seems easy; the second option is more difficult because I don't know how to bend the "tabs" on the metal strip to hold it back in place again.

I hope this makes sense to somebody.

G'day Martin,
From memory i fitted the replacement rubber without the metal strip as the rubber was a slightly larger profile.

Thanks Ace.   Your memory serves you well - the metal strip is wider than the the rubber seems to accept.  Glue it is!!
