  help needed
                 can someone with a parts book identify these numbers for me
                 they are steering columns. One is an  auto . and was told  they where both ek
                 but one  is slightly longer only about an inch
                 numbers are 4  7409219-3 
                                   88-7423138-p
                 

                was going to put one in my fc to lower the wheel closer to the dash

 thanks all ..l think l have worked it out
 shorter one ek  longer one fc auto only has three  bolts for steering box mount
 ek one has only two


   one other question, auto column  has gear shift lock situated just under the honey pot
   has key lock which inserts pin into honey pot.. its  made of aluminium. does anyone know who were
   the makers of these as it has no markings

Don't know who made the lock originally as they were sold through NASCO.
Probably the same company who made the locking fuel caps.

Greg,

This is not right, all Holden steering boxes up to and including EH had a three bolt steering box, HD-HR had only two bolts. The later HK-T-G steering boxes were separate to the steering column and utilised a collapsible column. There were no FC Automatics. I would suggest that based on the information that you have supplied that the auto column is for an EK. I do not have a parts manual to check it with, so this may be incorrect.

I would suggest that steering box that you have with 2 bolts is a HD-HR type box, and that, at a guess, would have the part number 88-7423138-p

YOU ARE CORRECT .AUTO'S WERE NOT IN FC'S.MY FC HAS EKAUTO CLM 3 BOLTS.I CHECKED MY EH HAS 2 BOLT HOLES.CONFUSING .IF EEFCEE IS RIGHT I MUST HAVE A HR CLM WITH EH HONEY/POT AND GEAR  /LEVERS.OK.

 thanks for the info boys
   what was confusing was l had two columns sitting side by side one longer than the other
   the longer one being the auto
   at closer inspection after cleaning the steering box on the shorter one found that the top mount hole had been ground off
   l now know this has been modified and l am shaw l took this out of an ek ute that had been changed to  a t/bar auto
   
   now going by this information are  the auto columns in the ek holdens  longer than the manuals

       looks like l am going to have to do a bit more investigating on the short column
       l know its been modified the gear linkage at the bottom of the shaft has been covered over to neaten it up
        l will measure it up to see if its usable l remember someone saying if they are too short you cannot get your legs under

 have come to the conclusion it must be an ej eh column its 40mm shoter than an ek column
 has a clean no hole honey pot ek indicator switch
 was taken out of an ek ute l had stripped it was most likely using a sports steering wheel
 will be placed on the for sale forum
