butchering chrome

is it possible to cut the chrome fins down to about 1/2 their regular length ?





and then can I fit them on my wagon ?

or is there something similar readily available on the market

Hi Surferboy,

I would talk to a chrome plater about what to use to cut & shape the fins. Would really suck to find out after the operation that you used something that would affect the finish. Mounting points & access would be the other consideration.

I reckon go your hardest it will look  .

Should not be a problem provided the fin does not have to be welded or anything .

An alternative to shaping the original diecast is to use brass.  Customisers quite often use brass to create trim pieces.  They get brass stock and shape and bend it to the style they want then get it chromed.  There are numerous advantages including brass is easily chromed unlike 50 year old die cast and you can drill and tap it for fasteners.  Eg you can make as many Tilli kits or whatever as you want.
