bonnet emblem

 :)help please ,just got my bonnet emblem back from the platers ,looks like new and cant wait to fit it ,my car has never had one fitted and before I drill any holes could someone tell me the correct placement if there is such a thing ,a measurementfrom the rear of the bonnet to the rear of the emblem would be good .thanks Steve .

I ask the same Question and Ken told me 300mm from the front edge of the bonnet I used my wifes sewing tape cos it is flexible stuck down tissue paper marked the holes checked twice and checked again then drilled again .My car didn't have a bonnet emblem and it is quite scary drilling holes in your car Michael

I fitted one to a FC Van several years ago.  I measured the distance from the front on the bonnet that I took it off, I don't have the measurements now.  I'd tend to trust teh dimension that Michael has given you though - his source is 'pretty good'.

It is important to get the centreline of the bonnet though, so you can get teh mascot straight & centred.  You need to measure four points off from the back corners of the bonnet, then measured across teh bonnet at each of these points.  Use a soft pencil (4b) to mark each centre point.  When done, rule a line connecting each point - this line should be extended to the front edge of the bonnet.  

Next step is to measure across the mounting studs on the mascot.  Halve that measurement to get the distance each stud is from the centre of the mascot.  The next measurement to get is the distance between the fron & rear stud centrelines.

After that, using mcl1959's 300mm from the front of the bonnet dimension, rule a line, at right angles to the previously marked centreline, that is about 40 com long (20 each side of centre).  Rule another similar sized line perpendicular to the centreline, it should be the same distance behind the other line that the front & rear stud centrelines are separated by.

Mark your stud points of the cross lines then pop (with a centrepunch), carefully drill and trial fit.  I would suggest that you put masking tape over the places that your going to drill and mark & pop the positions then.  Another thing to think of is to put a large cloth or whatever under the bonnet to catch any pieces of metal from the hole.  A good idea before final fitting of the mascot is to paint the edges of the holes.

steve  a bit more just to confuse you more
 if you lock 2 nuts together on the threads ,you'll be able to remove them so you can sit the emblem on the bonnet...should be quite obvious where it wants to sit..& work from there...using everybodys measements.
also  if you look on the under side of the bonnet,  theres a panel on the front..the nuts just miss the lip ..going thru the single thickness

 :)Thanks guys for all that great info ,emblem is now fitted and looks like it grew there now my next project is to find some suitable door mounted mirrors .Thanks again for all that good info .Steve .
