Can anyone suggest the best lubricant for an unrestored steering box please? I noticed the steering getting a little stiff so I checked the box. Looked like a little dark grease still inside and also signs of a slow oil leak on the outside at the end of the steering column. According to the workshop manual the box was originally filled with grease and thereafter was to be topped up with EP 140 oil. As it appears to have leaked that oil I was wondering if the Penrite Steering Box Lube would be a reasonable compromise. It's apparently a semi-pourable grease designed for steering boxes in older cars.
