I have the following two gearboxes for sale. Boxes available from early July.

First gearbox is number B154496, cast 21st December 1960 (originally likely to have been from an FB Holden but will fit FX-EK). Gearbox has been stripped and all parts cleaned up in kero. Casing and all fasteners have been wire wheeled and coated in light machine oil, similar to original finish. Gearbox was reassembled using a Status Engineering overhaul kit (new bearings, seals, gaskets, reverse idler shaft etc). Reverse idler gear end float is 0.012" and counter gear end float is 0.0035" (factory tolerance 0.003-0.009", 0.015" permissable in service for both). Reverse idler gear bushing clearance is 0.003" (factory clearance is 0.002-0.004"). Main shaft end-float is 0.013" (factory tolerance is 0.006 - 0.010). Box owes me $170 for the overhaul kit, and on average about $80 for the box (say $250 total). Similar condition boxes are being sold by one overhauler for about $600. Happy to let it go for $300 (= $250 and a carton of VB), mindful that like all boxes there is no guarantee (original gears are reused as are original synchros).

Second gearbox is number GB1818, cast 30th April 1948 (originally likely to have been from an early FX Holden. Will also fit FJ, but will need casing ground to suit slave cylinder if fitted to FE-EK Holdens... seems like a waste of a very early gearbox though). Gearbox has been stripped and all parts cleaned up in kero. Casing and all fasteners have been wire wheeled and coated in light machine oil, similar to original finish. Gearbox was reassembled using a Rare Spares overhaul kit (new bearings, seals, gaskets, reverse idler shaft etc). Reverse idler gear end float is 0.005" and counter gear end float is 0.008" (factory tolerance 0.003-0.009", 0.015" permissable in service for both). Reverse idler gear bushing clearance is 0.0045" (factory clearance is 0.002-0.004"). Main shaft end-float is 0.015" (factory tolerance is 0.006 - 0.010). Wave washer fitted under shifter lever to provide correct tension. Oversize reverse idler shaft lock pin (roll pin) fitted. Box owes me $220 for the overhaul kit, and $150 for the box (say $370 total). Price was higher as it was not too easy finding an early Humpy gearbox. Happy to let it go for $410 (= $370 and a carton of VB), mindful that like all boxes there is no guarantee (original gears are reused as are original synchros).

Both gearboxes are located in Western Sydney (near Parramatta) if you wish to pick them up. Alternatively, I can crate them and assist with a courier (purchaser to pay for freight). Crated gearbox is approximately 51cm tall x 77cm long x 45cm wide x 47kg. Indicative e-Go door-to-door prices are: Melbourne $40, Perth $80, Brisbane $40, Adelaide $45 and Hobart $60.

Boxes currently have no lubricant inside for ease of transport. GEARBOX OIL MUST BE ADDED TO BOTH CASING AND EXTENSION HOUSING BEFORE OPERATION OR BOX WILL FAIL. I can supply gearbox oil for whatever it costs me to buy it if buyer so desires.

Harv Gearbox Department warranty applies - if your not happy, bring it back in the same condition for a 100% refund (purchaser covers freight).

Cheers,
Harv
