Here's some pics of the Illusion FC funnycar that was campaigned around Australia in the late 60's. Some details from the article that appeared in the AHRR, Aug '69:
Owned and built by Bruce Phillips and Rick Jones. The car was taken off the road to be turned into a 179 altered, but the guys heard of a SB Chevy motor going cheap. They built fibreglass molds of most parts of the car, with the roof sides, door pillars and tailgate the only original parts left. Best time at time of article was 10.97 sec and 125 mph.
Check out that driver position and lift up body.

Regards
Alex

Alex,

That thing is incredible!!

It must have twisted SEVERELY on launch, the chassis looks way underdone for the obvious power of the car. And how much did it weigh? It couldn't have been much over 900 kilo's or so? Maybe less?

As always thanks for the photo's.

Cheers,

Craig.

A few more pics. Check out that profile.

This thing had a GM blower on the SB Chev, running Methanol and no weight.

Rick told us the first time he drove it he was scared stiff. "I got out and said somebody else can drive the thing, it's not for me"

This is the last paragraph of the article:
"The car as it stands now is a real crowd pleaser but once it's converted to a fueller it will really have the crowd going wild.

Scary stuff.
Regards
Alex
