Yep, I think I remember being very frustrated at all the oil leaks and I probably went down the rabbit hole a few times trying to make it perfect. It's been a long time since I drove the FC but I do remember that everything leaked and that I had to check the oil level regularly.

Hi all,

I have a 59 FC Special that's been stored for about 15yrs and I'm wanting to get it back on the road. It was pretty much my daily driver beforehand and in pretty good shape mechanically. It's been stored in a garage away from the weather.

I'm wondering what I should do to get it back up and running? I'm going to recondition the brakes and the radiator. Not sure what else I should do, or what problems may arise if I just start it up and drive it.

Any advice would be most welcome, thanks.

Yeah, the gearbox was working quite nice beforehand. It was so long ago, I can't remember why I even thought it needed a recon. Anyway, yeah I think you're right about the dodgy parts.

I'll check the oil first up but I'm guessing it's gonna need some tlc. Thanks for the help

I have question regarding my FC grey gearbox. Many years ago I had someone "recondition" the gearbox and since then it has a bad whining in 1st gear. THere's no vibration, just the sound that increases in pitch and volume as the speed increases. Other gears are fine. I haven't driven the car in a long time as it's been in storage but I remember the sound, it wasn't good

I'm going to pull it out and get it fixed but I thought I'd ask the question here just to see if anyone knows what the problem might be.

Wow! That's really cool, Ken. I'll keep an eye out when I remove the seat, there might be a label or sticker somewhere underneath.

Any idea if you can get the plastic trim that surrounds the bench seat? Mine is pretty beat-up and cracked. I wouldn't mind replacing it, if possible?

I'm starting on the interior first and I'm wondering if anyone knows of a good upholsterer in the Byron Bay area, or possibly Ballina or Lismore?

Also, the front bench seat seems to be some sort of after-market folding seat. This was my grandfather car and he was always out camping and fishing so it wouldn't surprise me if he had this installed so he could sleep in the car. Does anyone know about these folding bench seat? Can you get parts for them?
